Story: This was
@Glocck40
his freshman year! Since then he just posted a 3.75 semester GPA, over a 3.0 for the year and will make the Fall 2018 SEC academic honor roll. In addition to presenting TWO research poster presentations this semester!
If you were a former player in the AAF and are struggling with your next move give me a shout. I know of educational opportunities, graduate assistantships, and internships I can plug you in with. We can review resumes/interview prep and get you right!
Sometimes I worry we are only concerned with NIL, transfer portal, and forget about mental health and academics..reasons why the pratictoners in this area deserve more shine and must keep up the good fight!
The amount of burnout from athletic administrators is at an all time high. We have lost too many pivotal generation changers because they feel undervalued in thankless positions. We must encourage and pour into people, especially the entry and mid management professionals!
So I see Texas football is receiving a lot of criticism for their graphic citing that a 2.89 was their best semester GPA. If you all knew the rigors of some of these schools vs the backgrounds of these young men you would understand that why that is an outstanding number.
I was in denial (for a while) about not being able to play football anymore, and struggled to be a traditional student with out the athlete label attached. One conversation with Coach Richt got me started on my current path…he has touch more lives than he knows!
This is the result of making student-athlete welfare the number one priority when looking at conference realignment. Shorter travel equals more rest time for the body and less time missed from class. Excited to be members of the
@SunBelt
!
Trying something new with my class this year, we made table tents with their name and intended profession so I can ask them questions and give them assignments based on their career interest. Working well so far!
This weekend I lost one of my closest friends, I truly believe this is his way of looking over me..excited to get to VA and continue to pour into student-athletes as an Assistant Professor and Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services!
PSA to all student-athletes in the transfer portal: Please make sure your transfer makes sense academically as well as athletically! Research how many of your credits will transfer and ask for a new graduation plan! Many students lose a lot of credit hours during the transition!
Best career advice I’ve ever received was “learn to work with people you wouldn’t go to lunch with” you aren’t always going to see eye to eye with everybody and that’s fine, but never let grudges impact your productivity!
If you spent 4/5 years playing college ball and left without your degree, it’s time to go back and finish. Period, no excuses. You didn’t grind and sacrifice your entire life to come away empty handed. If you need help contacting your school to get this done let me know!

Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. 🇺🇸
Excited to represent ODU at for the signing of Virginia House Bill 1505, this bill streamlines how NIL operates in the commenwealth to make us competitive nationally and provide our students proper guidance and counsel!
Sport socialization and identity foreclosure isn’t tolerated here. We will push you JUST as hard off the field as the coaches will push you between the lines. We celebrate As just like we celebrate touchdowns! Come get this work 💪🏾😤
The most alarming issue of this transfer cycle is the number of students on their 3rd, 4th, or 5th school without graduating. Higher education is not constructed for multiple transfers to graduate within a 4/5 year time period. At some point degree completion has to become a

College athletics isn’t for everybody but, I love what I do! So much so that I’m genuinely excited to go to work in the morning or after the weekend. I encourage anybody who hasn’t found their passion/purpose to be intentional in perusing and exploring what’s right for them 👌🏿
I know the NIL trends and companies are what is popular now, but on campus the student-athlete mental health crisis is the most pressing and timely issue we face..
PSA: Student-athletes please please please please please check your academic status and eligibility with your advisor and compliance before you jump into the transfer portal. This is the main reason why some students aren’t able to find a home.
Transfer Portal Reminders:
- Make sure you know your academic requiments (PTD, GPA) have your transcript readily available to send to coaches
- Verify how many years you actually have, not how many you think you have left
Working in academics, compliance, and student development might not be as “exciting” to most working in sport but it’s impactful..and impact is what will matter 40 years from now
For years when collecting data on our players I have noticed a direct correlation between GPA and individual athletic success. Higher GPAs does not mean the student is smarter but that there are natural internal processes that helps with overall motivation on and off the
I tell my HS student-athletes often - ‘you don’t get to an elite program and then start acting elite. You start acting elite and then you might get to an elite program.’
This is the video version of that.

I’m Ron Moses, I have a PhD in Counseling and Student Development. I currently work as the Director of Football Academics at the University if Missouri, and my research interest are in the areas of minority males, student-athletes, graduation, and retention issues and efforts.
Do not let social media trick you into thinking you aren’t making sufficient progress personally or professionally. Run your race, everything will fall into place.
Working to provide our students with the best support during this unprecedented time! Access to academic support, mental health services, and student-athlete development programming will increase during this period.
It’s out! If you are interested in learning more about engagement strategies for black males in multiple disciplines please grab this book! It includes a co-authored chapter with

The best part about rejection and humbling experiences is that it forces you to get back in the lab and come out better than before, it’s the perfect time for growth
If you don’t understand the purpose of rejection and adversity in your life it will be hard to be successful. Learning from every lesson and interaction is paramount for your personal and career growth.
ODU Athletics creating a culture of expectation:
Highest term GPA in department history ✔️
Highest single and four year GSR ✔️
17/18 teams above 3.0 GPA ✔️
Football 3.10 highest program GPA✔️
71% of students athletes earned a 3.0 ✔️
Top ten in FBS community service rankings✔️
Spent the first part of my career working on creating the best student-athlete experience, with the recent developments in athletics it’s clear we must spend just as much time on employee capital, satisfaction, and development! Not an easy issue to tackle but has to be addressed.

On the eve of football transfer portal opening I just want to send out some reminders to students planning on going in:
1) There is no such thing as a medical redshirt, it’s called a medical hardship waiver and you apply for it at your new school with supporting documentation
After taking research intensive courses last semester,
@Glocck40
decided to take a theater class and was casted and was one of the leads of a university play production! Taking every advantage he can to develop identity outside of sport!

The Michigan family is devastated to report that Kenneth Miles, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director in charge of our Academic Success Program, has passed away this morning.
Please keep Kenneth's family in your thoughts and prayers.
GPA and academic progress are the top reasons why some student-athletes in the portal aren’t able to find a home. We have to push our students and hold them to an academic standard to ensure adaquate progress regardless if they stay or leave.
Today really rocked my spirit as an educator and administrator..we are here to help, guide, and protect our students. To know three young mens lives were cut short is devastating..protect and speak life into your students as much as you can hug and develop them while you can!
The new era in college athletics may present challenges, but within these challenges lies the opportunity to innovate, adapt, and rise above. Embrace this exciting moment, where the chance for improvement and growth has never been more invigorating!
I was a 17 year old high school drop out with zero direction and zero motivation. The army taught me discipline, dedication, and showed me through sheer will almost anything can be accomplished. Completely changed my life!

Challenged some of my
@MizzouFootball
athletes to take research intensive courses this semester, and they passed first poster presentations with flying colors! We will continue to work on their professional dress 🤷🏾♂️
High school coaches/advisors: when your students start to pick up scholarship offers PLEASE make sure they are working just as hard at their basic reading, writing, and math skills before you send them off to college. Teach them academic/life accountability early!
Tried to take an actual vacation this year and between NIL, transfer portal, admissions, and summer school..yea that didn’t happen. Maybe I’ll call this a work vacation 😂😂
Got the news that another former SA sadly lost his life to gun violence today. This where my passion for access to education, and removing systemic barriers comes from. Its not about sports, when that student leaves we have to be confident they learned the skills they need…
Finalizing these grade reports and community engagement numbers and ODU athletes smashed their own records again! Consistency and maintaining a standard is not easy, and continuing to elevate is even harder but they continue to anwser the bell!
I owe Nikki for how I innovate, problem solve, and demand excellence for our students. Her passion for her program and her students was unmatched and she expected excellence in every area. From recruiting, to academics, to travel Nikki made sure the girls had the best. She cared,
ODU mourns the passing of former head coach Nikki McCray -Penson. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire McCray-Penson family.

Leaving N4A this year feeling inspired and motivated to provide transformational experiences to our members! Got a long list to get accomplished (including a new headshot) but I’m as motivated as ever to improve student and staff outcomes!

I was a unit armorer in the army, I had to go to WEEKS of in person and supervised training at Ft. Lee to learn the proper ways of operating and maintaining military grade weapons. People shouldn’t be able to walk off the street and buy them…
I love scrolling through LinkedIn and looking at the job titles of former student-athletes! Project managers, VPs, executive recruiters, and accountants it shows the power and purpose behind what we do and why we do it!
Devastated by the loss of Dr. Navarro-Krupka. She was the epitome of what our profession was all about and contributed not only to her students but to the literature and development of young professionals! She will be missed but her spirit and impact will live on!
We are deeply heartbroken by the passing of Athletic Director Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka this weekend. She was a champion for the entire

I’m on two zoom meetings right now going back and forth trying to listen to two different presentations simultaneously..idk how I got here but this is life 😅
Back to my roots: excited to spend spring break working with soldiers to develop an enhanced transition assistance program! Similar to athletes, soldiers have a hard time adjusting and finding themselves once they become civilians. This program gives them a head start!
Once you experience 17 hour flights, weeks in the field, non stop MRE consumption, and being cut off from the world not knowing if you will return home the same. Day to day problems become minimal, life is precious live, love, and let go!

Transitioning back to in person instruction was rough! Yet we still achieved! Another record year and another football 3.0 semester 😎 all credit goes to our hardworking students and staff!
@ODUSports
Nikki McCray always used to tell me about the Carolina standard and why things needed to be process oriented in order for your players to buy into the vision. I’m glad I got to see it in person, and I know she is smiling from above!
