Capitol staffers make recos. They don’t directly regulate entities. As Members, we make the final decisions. This makes their profession unique to other state workers. We need to address the staff exodus by showing we value them, not by restricting their career options.
🚨#CALeg - Today we are opposing #SB573 which would create unfair limitations on the future opportunities of talented Legislative staff. Worse, it could TRAP staff in hostile or abusive work places by preventing them from holding meaningful, well compensated employment elsewhere.

There are approx. 45,000 garment workers in Los Angeles working more than 12 hours a day being paid $5.15 an hour. That is not a living wage! I voted in support of SB 1399 (@SenMariaEDurazo) to eliminate piece-rate pay and ensure that our garment workers are fairly paid!

No child should go hungry. I’m proud that CA was the first state in the nation to adopt a Universal Meals Program statewide for all school children. Students need access to nutritious meals not just for their health, but also to be academically successful in the classroom.
