Born Gadadhar Chattopadhyay, 1836, in the then obscure Kamarpukur, Hooghly, he was an ardent devotee of Bhavatarini – Kali maa. Ramakrishna was, apparently, on a never-ceasing divine communion with her.
He even held his wife Smt. Sharada devi in her idol, often praying to her.
