1 out of 5 naturalized citizens switch from reporting they were foreign born to reporting they were French by birth across census waves. This is a fascinating study with very careful development of hypotheses on mechanisms and tests. Results consistent with symbolic assimilation.
So happy that this work, which took root some 15 years ago, and was first completed in the midst of the lockdown, has just appeared in ASR. (1/2)
