Or lack of opportunities… In the kasi, there are shebeens & taverns in almost every corner. Some even have gambling houses. It’s what they are exposed to on a DAILY basis. When Sipho, who grew up in that environment as infant, never leaves the kasi, grows up to be an adult, what do you think his priorities are going to be? I purposely mentioned what you mentioned excluding all the other factors that are a common pain point in the kasi. In the bantu community, we all have that drunk uncle. And their stories are all too similar; lack of opportunities, menial jobs if any, a few kids, a broken home & a lot of alcohol abuse. 💁🏾♂️ Priorities are difficult to discern when you’re in survival mode 24/7. That stress alone will drive you drink.
