Artists, are you about to miss a deadline? Tell your client. Are you going overtime or over budget? Warn your client first. Do you plan to share the client's work in your portfolio? Negotiate that up front. In a business relationship, like any relationship, communication is key!

An illustrator being hired for their portfolio typically shouldn't have to do an art test. But if you're asked to do one, make sure you discuss who will own the rights to the art test, make sure you're paid for your valuable time, and make sure you put it all in writing.
What do you think about art tests? 👾 if a few out of a *thousand* were already picked because their portfolios showcase hard work and correct or adjacent style - why force them to do (sometimes under or not paid) labour to prove what they already can do?
