@GMJacobAagaard @davidllada You really think if anyone, let alone Magnus right now, started a rating list FIDE wouldn’t scream bloody murder? Why ask for more trouble than absolutely necessary?

I’m trying to remember the last time we went into Feb with no snow on the ground. I do remember that for most of my childhood snow covered the ground before end of November and didn’t leave until late March, early April.

@carl_boor @GMJacobAagaard @MagnusCarlsen IIRC, Benko originally called it “Pre-Chess.” I liked the way it seemed to add another layer of strategy to the opening, but I suspect it’d just be a short time and there would be known systems to memorize and play everyday, just like today.

@PulpLibrarian Dude! Literally the next item in my feed after this was from “trump2024film” — how do you time things like this so well?

@agadmator Several competitions do analogous things. The title is always prefaced by the organization (“Freestyle,” “FIDE,” “PCA,” “Herman’s Auto Club,” etc.) but the key is the orgs don’t prevent players from competing for any title, which FIDE almost certainly will do.

@patriotpunditry @ZaleskiLuke @tedcruz Countries who use the canal the most, end up paying the most. That’s how capitalism works.

@tedcruz Um, it seems your point is the canal belongs to those who lost their lives building it, but I don’t think Barbados wants to have it. Yeah, we lost a handful of American lives there, but the body count was mainly (90%+) from the Caribbean nations, not the US.

These days, for some strange reason I find myself thinking more and more about the King and Duke from Twain’s Huckleberry Finn: ”Ain’t we got all the fools in town on our side, and ain’t that a big enough majority in any town?”

@BenThaxted @LauraRbnsn Ideally, we’d find a way to do both, it shouldn’t be either/or. But what I’ve seen of Congress so far, my bet is the majority party there would do neither.

@kkdumez Just wanted to say thanks for Jesus and John Wayne. If I had to pick a nit, I’d have preferred more primary source footnotes, rather than noting a third person book that quotes a person. But if you make me reach that far for something, you did very well, indeed.

@ZachWLambert It’s not even what he claims it is (are we surprised?) for that matter. It’s not the Ordo Amoris.

@JEG2 Those three lovely sentences: I don’t want to. I don’t have to. You can’t make me. but egad, the dreck you have to crawl through to get to say them!

@sjs856 My first reaction was: tell me you haven’t read St. Augustine without saying those words. What Vance details is *exactly* what St. Augustine says is a violation of Ordo Amoris! Check for yourself. It’s early in On Christian Doctrine, IIRC.

@toys_retro Don’t’ see anything that couldn’t have been built. I had a similar layout but it was for HO, this looks like 1/32 scale. Most track is two lanes, but you build a 4-lane by just changing the curve radius (HO came in 15”, 12”, 9” and 6”

@roguecaliber The only correct answer is “Depends on the campaign.” It’s not a multiversal constant. 😎

@TimothyImholt I ran with a lot of house rules. Never made their discovery fatal, but didn’t disclose them all, either. I’d tell you if your character’s backstory meant they might know, but that’s it. The unknowns kept the sense of wonder and adventure in the world.
