Working our left foot timing and 4 step pattern with our high school players. We want our left toes to land as the ball enters the glove and then foot steps before we release the ball (right, left, right, left). We use this footwork on hard hit balls and/or slow runners.

Jeff, every MLB player swings up through contact. A lot “think” down, but the barrel needs to turn up. We talk to our hitters about that. Some have to think more down. Some have to think more up. But all have to have a positive attack angle into contact.

Fielding the ball and bringing it to the center of our body are two distinct moves that really good players make look like one. Make sure we do not rush through the first step of fielding the ball. Secure the ball and then bring it to the center and transfer.
