The patients that lose weight and keep it off FOREVER have taught me the most.
I call them Cycle-Breakers.
They ALL follow the same rules.
More than “rules” per se, these are mantras. These are the anchors that ground them and keep them going.
Rule
#1
: Rest, but don’t quit.
My most difficult patients are not drug addicts - it’s vegans.
I can’t get the right nutrients into a vegan brain. I can prescribe the highest quality supplements...
but it fails to restore the way animal fat does.
If you can maintain your weight during the holidays, THAT'S A WIN!
Personally, I drop back to ketoCONTINUUM
#5
.
I add the cream back to my coffee, open my eating window, and eat my last meal later in the evening.
Rest, but don’t quit.
While dessert is an effective sedative… so is a thwack to the head with a baseball bat.
It looks like sleep. It feels like sleep.
But flooding glucose into your brain at this critical time prevents your brain from making repairs needed to ward off Alzheimer’s.
Your morning fasting blood sugar is the most important metric to reverse insulin resistance.
If it's above 100, you're not going to reverse those chronic medical problems.
#5
: Know your why.
My number one question to patients is WHY.
I can predict your success based on the honesty of your answer.
Cycle-Breakers want to enjoy their life without the burden of disease. Their vision of health propels them forward when it gets hard.
Everyone's talking about Youtube censorship. Here's some BONUS content that ended up on the cutting room floor. Watch what I have to say about this on YouTube tomorrow.
#6
: Stay connected.
When it comes to losing weight and succeeding on keto, the truth is…
without community, your keto journey will be SO. MUCH. HARDER.
Hearing your own flaws in someone else’s story allows you to understand what you could be doing better.
Hawaiian Heart study showed the lowest cholesterol had the highest heart disease in men in their 70s& 80s. There is more to the story of heart disease than a cholesterol number.
Georgia Ede, MD Look what medications can do .. Now look what the ketogenic diet does! Cheaper, faster, side benefits of loosing weight & repairing brains!!!

@ Renaissance Long…
The patients I’ve worked with who’ve lost significant weight and reversed their chronic medical conditions for good taught me the most… I call them Cycle-Breakers. And you’re on your way to becoming one!
The trajectory of their life was headed in one direction and they reversed
#3
: Know your triggers.
A trigger is a thought, emotion, or act that sets in motion a course of events.
Ask yourself, when's the last time you fell off the wagon? Which emotion did you feel beforehand? What comforts you when you feel that emotion?
I bet food is on your list.
#2
: Data is your friend.
Ignoring data turns a setback into a disaster.
Be grace-filled if you fall off and keep measuring.
These are the metrics I record, no matter what:
1. Dr. Boz Ratio
2. Weight
3. Shin-Thumb Print
Data keeps us talking truth to ourselves.
If you're struggling, read this.
There is no better compliment than praise from a healthy person who knows the value of health. Chris, your hard work is the key. You win!
My first real experience with the ketogenic diet came years after I went "low-carb" & sustainably lost 80 pounds...
Still experimenting & learning, each & every day.
