Google can't kill blogging or niche sites, or whatever you want to call our sites. I've been publishing sites before the term "niche site" or even "blog" were invented. More importantly, long before Google came to be. The internet is not "Google's turf". It's the Internet. It's

It's funny cause it's true (Also, I've never been one to follow Google's guidelines. A good search engine shouldn't have guidelines to begin with IMO)

I’ve spent weeks studying Google’s updates and the fallout trying to get a handle on it. The only conclusion I can come up with is that it appears there’s an unwritten set of Google Web publishing guidelines for a subset of Web publishers. I set out what I believe those to be

Traffic is down on some of our sites. It's not link-building. It's not a quality/helpfulness issue. Posts still rank for main queries, but they're losing ground on additional queries. IMO that's due to more competition over longtail.

Oh Google, vast and boundless deep, Tonight I lay my prayer at your feet. As twilight turns the sky to shade, A humble web publisher asks for your aid. In your great algorithm's sweep, Grant me favor, let my content leap. As you update, gather, and collate, May my site rise

Gemini prefers diversity over historical accuracy, leading to some strange images They'll fix this, but it raises a bigger question - Should a single corporation with a de facto monopoly over search be allowed to generate AI answers in lieu of search results?

The best keywords/topics are down the rabbit hole. Where no software goes. Tools can help you find the opening of that tunnel, but if you're not going down there, you're missing out on some good stuff.

Yeah, that part caught my eye too. Nothing there says that small sites are demoted, as far as I can tell, but the fact that our sites are marked with something that has really no relevance to the user experience is concerning

The latest email from @NicheSiteLady really annoyed me In that it was perfect That's what being a web publisher is all about (Also a great explanation of Longtail niche sites, why they are/were perfectly legitimate and why it's probably no longer a good direction)

Well, well, well... Google finally launched Gemini. You can test it using the Bard interface, so they say. Bard says so too, but I don't trust Bard too much. Have been playing with it and so far, I'm underwhelmed. Sticking to ChatGPT Plus for now. Here's why - 1. Bard is

95% increase in pageviews compared to last year (May and June 22 vs 21). Most of this is old content rising up to the top. I wish I knew why so I could replicate this with other sites. Any ideas?

Ads on top results AND in the search results themselves are out of control sometimes Maybe that's the problem with small-publusher sites? Maybe Google (a monopoly over ads too) prefers sites that show more ads? 🤔

@JTimWells @NicheSitePM My site was part of the Google PSS (not included in the video), and we were crushed during the October to March updates. We do nothing that the search team claims to be targeting. We have offline expertise and a helpful resource according to our audience. We're not "SEOs," we
