After 36 hours of driving from Seattle to Lansing, I'm finally home!
Next up I'm starting as a photographer with the University of Michigan Dearborn and I am available for freelance :)
I was laid off today with 10 incredibly talented colleagues at the Everett Herald. I am devastated, but it has been an honor to cover Snohomish County and get to know the members of this community.
Moving forward I am looking for staff positions and I am available for

Now that my move to Utah is a week away, it's starting to feel real. In January I'll be starting at the Deseret News as a photography intern. This is my first time heading out west and I am excited for the adventure and challenge!
Congratulations to everyone, especially
@TorrezDevin
! It feels great to be recognized, but I know we aren't doing the work to win awards. It's thrilling to see how we all are connecting with communities and working to make stories and information accessible to everyone
Annie Barker, a Dec. 2022 J-school graduate, has placed first in the Photojournalism News and Features Competition of the prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards Program. Journalism senior Devin Anderson-Torrez was awarded sixth place in the competition.
Congrats, Annie and Devin!
Was on cloud nine last week after placing third for the MPPA college photographer of the year and thought the good news would end there, but today I am incredibly honored to have placed first in D2 for best photographer from the Michigan Press Association
This is Justice. She was supposed to be a leader dog for the blind, but never mastered stairs. Now she works in MSU’s Sexual Assault Program, offering support and providing a smile where few are found. I’m told she likes peanut butter and carrots, and she’s our sixth ever 15/10
Please consider signing! Many of us have part time jobs on top of our full time positions (including myself) so we can get by and still support the community
We need your support!
@EverettHerald
continues to deliver award-winning journalism, but the people who produce that journalism cannot afford to live in the community they cover.
If you believe journalists deserve a living wage, sign our petition today!
Since all the other verified Snewsers can't tweet, and I, alas, am not verified, a few news tweets might be coming to your TL from me - stay tuned

It's fun to personify/describe your friends as moments/emotions and I suggest you give it a go :)
Alyte is like one of those film montages where you see people running in slow motion looking back smiling where their hair flys around
I’m officially only describing people as little scenes or experiences. For example,

Picked up my cat who stayed with a friend while I was out of town and received this report card. Overall, Pesto was only mildly a menace, but mostly needs to get on

Primarily Trump supporters, but a few Biden supporters, flocked to the Michigan State Capitol after Joe Biden was deemed the winner of the 2020 presidential election on Nov. 7, 2020. People crowded the Capitol steps to listen to speakers.

Miss the times when all I had to worry about was what to do for my book report diorama and if the demons were going to get me because I didn't forward middle school chain emails

Glad you like it! If you'd like one for yourself I'd say you are akin to the excitement of when you remember something that's been bugging you and when you crack the code on a riddle - thoughtful and ambitious
