There’ll be some who still prefer JD Vance’s take on Catholic Social Teaching.. ie. it’s ok to be nationalistic & anti migrant so long as you love your kids.But CST since Rerum Novarum, is mainly Papal teaching. So who to follow? Politician or Pope? C’mon US Catholics, get a grip
MAJOR BREAKING: Pope Francis has written a letter to US Bishops saying he’s following “major crisis” of “mass deportations;” takes on Vance saying “The true ordo amoris that must be promoted is that which we discover by meditating constantly on the parable of the “Good Samaritan”

Perhaps people piling on with negativity have not met Anne Owers. I’m confident she will take on this task as she has every other - with a clear head and integrity.
If reaction expressed across this platform is anything to go by, this review into the prison capacity crisis is another example of MOJ marking its own homework, making it unlikely it is "..conducted to the highest standards" asserted by James Timpson #prisons #capacityplanning

@j_bambrick @krishk The idea of a hierarchy of love is simply not supported in Catholic Social Teaching. Theology didn’t come to a full stop with Aquinas. Jesus doesn’t love Americans more than anyone else. I hope you might agree on that point.

@j_bambrick @krishk With respect, it’s easy enough to trade scriptural passages and our own interpretations. But I’m not conceited enough to consider myself the ultimate theological authority. That’s why we have 2000 years of teaching tradition to fall back on.

@j_bambrick @krishk Hi Jamie. I’m afraid that Krish is quite correct. May I respectfully suggest you explore what the tradition to which Vance says he belongs has to say on the matter . There is no hierarchy of love in the Catholic faith.

By 15 I’d been picked up a few times by the police. Riding someone else’s motorbike. Breaking & entering a social club. For kicks. Being an idiot. Police knew me. And the system treated me as the child I was. So I went to university instead of prison. Thank you @Rachel_deSouza

This is bad and dangerous law making and deeply worrying. I often disagree with @danny__kruger but on this life or death issue I believe he is absolutely right. I am against this bill. I understand strength of feeling. But surely everyone should want balanced & informed debate?
... we won't hear from a psychiatrist. A key issue with the bill is the issue of consent, capacity and coercion, including indirect coercion. @NazShahBfd tabled an amendment to hear from the Royal College of Psychiatrists - it was voted down.
