Dan Bylsma will be beloved in the Coachella Valley for ages. He built something in such a short time that I’m not sure anyone could have envisioned, and he showed humility and patience amid the process. The Kraken got a good one.

It’s the end of an era for the @Firebirds. Two Calder Cup Finals appearances in the team’s first two years, but Dan Bylsma and several key players will now be moving on. That they couldn’t win a title, in spite of being so close, will hurt these guys for along time, I suspect.

The Hershey Bears were down 0-2 in the Calder Cup Finals, then won four of the next five. This year, they were down 0-1 and then won four of the next five. That team is resilient and knows how to make adjustments. Have to respect that.

I met Jerry last June and spent more than an hour talking with him about his life and career, moderating a discussion for a crowd of several hundred. He was so gracious and kind, and reminded me how incredible the work of a journalist can be.
Jerry West, whose silhouette is on the logo of the NBA and who emerged from West Virginia to become one of basketball’s greatest players, a Hall of Fame guard for the LA Lakers, and later an executive with the team, died on Wednesday. He was 86.
