@peterawolf What’s so stupid about all the southern nostalgics is that they imagine they’d be one of the southern plantation masters if they lived in the 1800s. But statistically there were so few of them that you have a better chance of being a millionaire today than one of them back then.

@ferald_gord One of the biggest ways to go for the throat of republicans is de-regulating car sales to kill off car dealerships. I’m not even joking about how devastating that would be for local republicans.

@MariGO2thepolls Every time authoritarians brag about how great they are I think of this meme.

@gart_mp4 @LinkofSunshine There’s lots of “public commons” games if you think about it like chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe, etc.

@LinkofSunshine Been following politics for a while but I remember getting into twitter in 2019 b/c @TomJChicago was super convinced Trump wasn’t going to make it to the 2020 election b/c of Dementia and he had loads of threads about it. Given Trump’s secrecy about his health I can’t blame him.

@Conblob The first step to forgiveness is admitting you did something wrong. The number of votes Donald Trump got in both the 20 and 24 elections increased both times. I think that’s enough evidence that there are very few Trump voters that even did the bare minimum.

@constans The most aggravating part is that it’s all driven by social media. For vast swaths of America the average person will know maybe 1-2 jewish people, hardly enough real life interaction to drive this hate. If there ever was a real mind virus it’s antisemitism.

@deadnotred @Trillburne If your personal views are toxic af then yeah, you can be shown the door. Nobody is entitled to a specific job. Plenty of min wage jobs where you can have whatever views you want and nobody will care.

@StatisticUrban The thing that scares me is that the actual Nazis never got more than 40% of the vote before Hitler was appointed Chancellor in 1933, but that was enough to leverage themselves into total control.

@constans I think a lot of it has to do with what product you end up having to sell. Big difference between having to sell a couple dozen cars a year versus a few hundred subscriptions to the fruit of the month club.

@kamilkazani One of the most insightful parts of Yes Minister is seeing why it’s important that your civil service doesn’t get politicized. You’d just be setting yourself up for a VERY schizophrenic government otherwise.

@ChrisO_wiki The most f’d up part of this is that if this war lasts another year they’ll probably be suffering shortages of donkeys b/c they’re probably going to die quicker than they can be replaced. I’ve learned never to underestimate Russia’s ability to find new lows.

@StatisticUrban It helps a lot that parliamentary systems tend to be unicameral. If you think about it, a lot of problems with the US government come down to the Senate (ex. The filibuster, unrepresentative, slows down appointments, extremely expensive election campaigns, etc)

@agraybee It’s incredibly depressing that they can muster sympathy for Palestinians on the other side of the world, but minorities in their own country suffering can’t even get much more than some shrugged shoulders.

@vanillaopinions Well the thing is if that was the case then the dems would have that seat already. Not gonna begrudge the guy for giving it a shot in what’s likely a blue year anyways.

@_Jason_Dean_ To be fair it is kind of stupid that money you are getting from the government via social security is getting taxed by the government. It’s just a stupid roundabout way of lowering benefit payouts everyone can see through.
