👋 Meet our underwater camera! This camera has been deployed to depths of over 100 meters in the ocean of Cape Verde We deploy it off the side of the boat, and it provides a live feed so we can see what's on the sea floor 🔦 On the last dive, we saw a moray eel!

Lights 💡 Camera 🎥 Action 🎬 The deep sea camera is being prepared for 100+ metre dives today in Cape Verde As well as collecting never seen before videos of deep sea in the area, this project is training and providing equipment to local scientists

🎉 We just reached 50 dives! We are currently on expedition with @BiosferaCV in Cape Verde deploying cameras down to the deep sea in areas which have never been seen before We have seen black corals, butterflyfish, trumpetfish and sea bream 🥹 And even a manta ray!

@BiosferaCV And whilst we’ve of course had some challenges (cue broken wires, diesel fumes & power cuts - that’s fieldwork for you 🤷🏼‍♀️), it’s been an incredible trip led by @TeresaAmaro2 🙌🏼

@BiosferaCV As someone from a country with a very shallow & extensive shelf, it never ceases to amaze me just how close deep water is to land here! 🌊⛰️

The deep-water drift camera system will join the BRUVS as a permanent monitoring asset remaining in Cabo Verde with the @BiosferaCV team 🇨🇻

The training we’re delivering covers everything from building the camera system to safe deployment to reviewing, managing & analysing the data 📊

So far we’ve had beautiful dense black coral gardens at 100 m + & sharks on the BRUVS 🦈🪸😍

We’re deploying both BRUVS & drift cameras to get a glimpse of some never-before-seen areas 🗺️
