@WillManidis 1. The Chip by T.R. Reid was probably my overall favorite 2. Crystal Fire by Michael Riordan goes deeper into the Shockley / Transistor story specifically 3. The Idea Factory by Jon Gertner is a great story about Bell Labs and the context around it

The Franco-Prussian war in 1870. Germany curb stomped France and took Paris, thought they could do it again and miscalculated the effect 40 years of technology would have on defensive warfare. Also the Schleiffen plan, it was a hyper-specific deployment process to quickly defeat France that automatically kicked into gear when Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. Nobody actually did the analysis and decided this was a good idea, really it was a process in control of the decision making and people sticking to the steps of the process without truly understanding the consequences. The lesson from WW1 is not to blindly follow processes because they worked in some other situation and to actually put human autonomy in control of major decisions (see Kennedy during Cuban Missile Crisis)

This actually works pretty well. I gave it two books I want to read right now: A history of credit card adoption in the US and a history of Las Vegas, it gave me back two seemingly adequate options.
“Tell me of the book you seek but cannot name” — An LLM powered book recommendation engine. Gave some some great suggestions already:

Another fun fact. Most of Ernest Hemingway's bangers were written from his office at his wife's house in Key West.
Fun fact. Harry Truman vacationed in Key West once to decompress from ww2 and was so attracted to its magic he came back 11 times during his presidency, and operated out of there for 175 days.
