On the other hand, had Cal not been convinced to recruit Sheppard it’s possible this season would have been a complete disaster. We’re losing the minutes Sheppard hasn’t played by 7 points per hundred possessions. I remain skeptical Cal can still win big consistently.

The people in here that are actually arguing that Sheppard should play less hurt my head. By all statistical measures Sheppard has been our most effective player all season. Jerking after each mistake is counter productive. The ball moves when he plays.

My only quibble about otherwise good comments is just getting out of next weekend doesn’t fix anything. This was THE TEAM, Cal’s kind of players, that was going to bring UK back. We’ve won nothing and a simple sweet 16 assuages nothing. Won’t leave a gray area at all.

College Basketball isn't a freshman game anymore. It's teams built with 22 & 23 year old men. NIL keeps the fringe guys in school longer & transfer portal allows guys that were under recruited to move up the chain. Unfortunately Cal can't or doesn't want to coach those dudes.

Who are you people in these comments saying Finebaum is wrong? Good Lord. A second round loss along with a quick exit in SEC tourney is a failure of a season at Kentucky. Pitino had one 2nd round exit and it's like the sky fell. Finebaum is correct and I'm glad he said it.
