The Teachers Unions spent a whopping 3.5 million dollars this year to support their favorite Democrat candidates. This is where your union dues are going. As a reminder below is a brief background in Texas the supposed Right to Work State
Parents are complaining that their children are not getting services in their IEP I am urging them to file a complaint. We are 5 weeks into the school year and some schools have no Speech/Language Pathologists. This is illegal
One speaker at the Board Meeting provided this
Robert’s Elementary, an A rated school, high STAARS tests. 30 new students enrolled this year, no new state funding for which has blown their budget. Miles fired district custodians. It is so bad there that the principal is cleaning toilets, no Spanish teacher and a 4th grade
In the meeting Miles denigrated Special Education teachers saying they are the worst teachers, classrooms are a mess and they do very little. I stood up & said I resent what you are saying. I have a Masters in Learning disabilities, 30 HS experience, Again I got threat of removal
There's been no commitment from the special education team about when services will resume. Children, in NES & NES-A campuses are being exposed to district mandated curriculum, lesson, pacing, and segregated disciplinary practices that may be in direct violation of their rights.
I went to speak at the Board Meeting tonight. 5 board members sat down and said closed session and didn’t come back. I waited two hours, reminded the people that sat up there that their by laws states I am supposed to talk by 7.
Patricia Allen is Trustee for District 4, these are the schools she is responsible for. Kelso is one of her schools where the air quality is dangerous, not one word from Trustee Allen.

OMG
What’s Your Point FOX 26 Sunday talked about my asking the board to speak louder and/or face us and what their reaction was. Both Tamara Bell and Charles Blaine found this behavior disgusting. Shout out to both of them and verifying the terrible treatment I received
According to Texas Rule §746.3301
YOU MUST SERVE ALL CHILDREN REGULAR MEALS AND MORNING AND AFTERNOON SNACKS.
Punishing a child because snack isn’t academically tied is not an option. If this doesn’t stop immediately file a complaint or visit an education lawyer.

I am a 30 year retired Special Educator running for HISD District IV. If elected, I will be the only Trustee with my background and experience. I promise that I will fight for important changes. At one board meeting a parent asked for a SPED committee, I back this 100%.
At the Houston ISD school board meeting last night, one of the biggest take away was listening to a SPED parent pleading with the Board for a voice in their children’s education. The Board sat stone faced waiting for her one minute to be over
On School Choice. I was at Sen Creighton’s office yesterday. A lot of misinformation is being spread to create hysteria and violence. School Choice will affect approximately 50,000 students. It will not be available to students already in private schools.
I will be speaking at tonight’s Board Meeting, 9/7, addressing the dismal performance of 18 schools in District 4
Bastian: Math 15% Rdg 22% Black 67% Hispanic 30%
Codwell: Math 8% Rdg 22% Black 26% Hispanic 53%
Foster: Math 17% Rdg 27% Black 90% Hispanic 9%
Why would Board Meetings change time to 11 AM when parents are at work? That means that parents can’t interact with Board members. I thought the plan was to get the community more involved

If we truly want to address teacher shortages in Texas, start with:
1. Add a Cost of Living adjustment to their pension every 5 years
2. Retired Teachers willing to return to work during this shortage should be welcomed back where they will NOT lose their pension

Now that the Houston Chronicle published the list of applicants for Board of Managers, much to my surprise, y’all know that I have applied.

Today from 9AM - 6PM I will be attending TEA training
Wish me luck!
Opening day for Shearn Elementary in HISD
I am meeting with parents. Shearn is not part of NES. What changes will happen at Shearn? When I am elected, I will personally work for student proficiency.
Libraries foster the love of reading. It is very sad that the Superintendent is declaring a war on libraries. This is me teaching my granddaughter reading. Look at the joy on her face. Every child deserves this
#SaveSchoolLibraries
Research shows that students who have a certified school librarian tend to have higher reading and writing scores. This decision goes against research.
HISD to eliminate librarians, turn some libraries into discipline centers at 28 campuses
Sadly the schools in my district are not successful. In visiting Shearn Elementary (dual language) and talking to parents, 8% in Math and 22% in Reading is unacceptable, 69% Hispanics. This school is not part of NES and not receiving extra support. why not? We have to do better.
The school district is District 4. Your board member is Patricia Allen, has she addressed this at all? Has she visited the school? You don’t need an MIA Board Member when kids lives are at stake. When elected, you will see me in the schools addressing pressing problems
Results in 2022
2023 will be better…..year of the Parent Year of what is best for our children…year of learning the basics reading, writing, mathematics because every child deserves to reach their potential

So not only is there a war on libraries there is a war on books. Children from low income families deserve having books, holding them and reading for pleasure. Why would any educator exchange all books for paper worksheets?
Making the
#HISD
NES reading classes 80% paper is NOT only fiscally irresponsible it's environmentally counterproductive and contributes to deforestation and climate change.
This is the way you can watch today’s Houston Board Meeting if you cannot attend. I will be speaking. Gerry Monroe will have a press conference at 4:30

I talked about this at the Board Meeting last night. I asked them to vote no and reminded them that this is not mandatory in Texas. Why did Humble and Magnolia voted it down? Will parents be able to opt out?

I would love to meet y’all.
The first step was to change the head of the Education Committee at the state level to align with our family values. The second step is to vote in strong candidates who also align with family values and Parental Rights. Make sure you vote 4 these candidates on 11/8/22
#All4Kids
I have been talking about at School Board meetings. Our 3-5 year old must be in good PreKindergarten classes with a Speech/Language Pathologist. We must center on language development. Children from low income families have low language skills entering K with reading struggles
I don’t think Miles understands how hard it is to find teachers trained in Autism education and how hard it is for our Autism children to form relationships. This is a major step backwards in Special Needs education. I am so disappointed
Tony Tinderholt is running for Speaker of the State House against Dade Phelan. He doesn’t believe in putting Democrats to Head Committees in a Texas Majority House. Call your Reps and tell them to vote for Tony on 1/10/23
#SaveOurSchools
Before the new induction of the elected School Board of Education in Texas the old SBOE voted against School Choice….NAEP test scores are abysmal, reading instruction is archaic…..let that sink in
Do you think Miles understands the advantages of libraries and how import they are for children? Especially in low income households….If a low income family had a choice to feed their family or buy a book which one would they choose? Does book burning come next to make more room
“Our libraries are not supposed to be prisons. We do not want our kids go back to COVID conditions. We’ve already done the Zoom room. It didn’t work.”-Parent Kourtney Revels
When I spoke at the last board meeting citing examples of FERPA violations the press asked Mikes if it was true. He said no. The Press said oh, ok and dropped it. I didn’t tell him the schools so how does he know it isn’t true without investigating?

@HoustonCVPE
🤦♀️ I just can’t anymore. 😓 I don’t even know how to respond to his obvious lies. Why isn’t more media screaming and pointing out the hypocrisy?!?!?!
I’ve been talking about this at Board Meetings and at Kashmere this week. The only thing I disagree with on this chart is not emphasizing the need for language development. I encourage all children at-risk to attend PreK and demand a Speech/Language Pathologist in the classroom
@DrBradJohnson
I respectfully disagree. In the lower grades homework teaches responsibility. Just taking a paper home and bringing it back the next day teaches children a great step in responsibility.
80% of our students are low income
There is no excuse for this. There is no regard for our communities or the struggling families who live here. No wonder delivery of instruction is ignoring what children need to learn.
Step 1: Dade Phelan cannot remain Speaker
Step 2: Get voting records of State School Board of Education Trustees and hold them accountable
Step 3: Evaluate The TEA
Step 4: Contact your State Reps

I am running for HISD School Board. I am a retired Special Educator/Consultant. The 30 day required meetings is law, time to hold people accountable. The SPED population in HISD is poorly monitored and our kids suffer. This won’t happen under my watch.
This is very sad, Yates is not part of the 28 NES schools. Why are they being ignored? They are starting the school year with a new principal, a Yates alumni, praying she gets immediate support to help Yates.
Another Board Meeting today, 2/9/23 in Houston Texas
I will be speaking today (hopefully) Today I only get 1 minute
You can watch it or attend. Starts at 5 PM
And this must be addressed. Paraprofessionals play a huge role in helping our children succeed. You are absolutely correct, they do need higher wages, especially SPED paras. In a perfect world there should be a para in all K-3 classrooms. I plan on working towards this goal.

Actually, we have a big shortage in special education aides because districts are only offering poverty level wages, plus they are usually hourly so don't usually get paid for 40 hours and have to work 2nd and 3rd jobs to survive.
First Board Meeting with Board of Managers and Supt Miles is this Thursday 6/8. I hope to be speaking if they continue protocol. Y’all are reading the changes being made to 29 schools but NOTHING ABOUT SCHOOL SAFETY. I will be addressing this.

ESSER funds is only a 2 year commitment; accountability of where the money went in many districts is weak. Many schools in Houston were supposed to get tutors with this money but they didn’t. Then they wonder why student outcomes aren’t improving due to misappropriation of funds

@houstonisdwatch
This is the budget the Board voted on. If you notice the SPED department will be reduced. The unfilled positions will be eliminated. We don’t have enough SPED teachers so why the cut? Do you think we aren’t paying attention? Why arent these kids a priority?
Educator pay is top of mind for Texas’ biggest teachers union this legislative session
#NewsBreak
And Texas is a right to work state, meaning no unions…..so why do unions have this power?Could it be because Dade Phalen accepts campaign donations from them
@HoustonChron
That is an example of the Board of Managers giving him free rein on purchases up to a million dollars. No accountability is a scary situation
HISD is 80% low income. If a parent has a choice of putting food on the table or buying a book, what do you think the answer will be? Have some compassion
It has been two months and I still have no answers to these questions at Town Hall. 3 calls to HISD, 3 emails to House later and just silence. I went to another meeting and questioned House about transparency. Why can’t I get answers? I promise transparency when you elect me.
My unanswered questions at Town Hall last night
On new PreK classrooms
💥Employing certified teachers only?
💥What schools in SD4 are involved
💥How do these classes differ from Headstart?
💥What are the goals?
💥Are Principals using ESSR funds for PreK vs hiring teachers?
I am an avid reader and sign a pledge yearly to read 50 books a year. I support libraries 100% and will continue fighting this. It is a disgrace for a Superintendent to declare a war on libraries, especially in a community with a population of 80% low income
Patricia Allen is the MIA Trustee for this school.
A visit to the school should have happened immediately, along with Administrators. They should have sent a letter to the parents, and developed a plan for immediate clean up. If the classrooms are contaminated, close them

Their bylaws specifically state that I will talk by 7. I then left furious. They owe me an apology and $20 in gas. They have absolutely no respect for their shareholders.
A parent has reported that the Principal emailed a list of the entire schools ESL students including names, ID, language, level of proficiency, 504 records etc. The parent reported this isn’t the first time. The Principal said he would look into it and he doesn’t know who else
@GinaForAustin
@mr_dsantos
@HoustonISD
Are you purposely leaving out the important fact that the TEA revised their ranking criteria and all schools did better not because student outcomes improved.
I reached out to the SPED parents to help them as my 30 year Special Education background has always been listening to the parents. If elected, I will be the only Board Member that is a SPED consultant
@GinaForAustin
The bureaucracy isn't responsive to our people. When our parents have the power of the purse, I guarantee the bureaucracy will be responsive, but not before! They have no incentive to do so.
