There is history! Bennett Berge etches his name into the record books becoming just the seventh wrestler in the state of Minnesota to win five individual state titles. One of the most dominating prep careers you will ever see.
Rodgers very high on Jamaal Williams: “Jamaal and jonesy have a great approach and a great mindset. Jamaal is a great locker room guy, he’s never bitching...even when he wasn’t playing he was always ready.”
Some news: Starting Monday I will be joining the terrific staff at the Rochester Post Bulletin as a sports reporter. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with
@PBFeldy
and company to tell the stories of the athletes, coaches and people of the Rochester area! Can't wait
Jamaal Williams on The Aaron jones TD, "I took myself out I was a little gassed. The plan was to come out for one play and then go back in, but when jones kicked it outside, I went oh he's gone. We win let's go home now"
Maxwell Petersen is once again a state champion. After three consecutive runner-up finishes, the
@ByronWrestling
senior capped off his career with his second state title and a 50-0 record. Petersen is the definition of class as well.
I meant to tweet this out a while back but I remember the first day of training camp when the offense was coming onto the field, Rodgers had his arm wrapped Jones and looked me in the eye and said this is Aaron Jones remember the name. via
@thepackerswire
Story here on Bennett Berge making history as the
@kometwrestling
senior became just the seventh in Minnesota to win five state titles. Some great photos too from
@traci_westcott

This has been in the works for a while, but I am now the Sports Editor at the Winona Daily News. It will be a tough task, as I know there is a lot of work to be done, but I’m excited and ready for this opportunity. Here is my first story:
Here at Pine Island today where it is an absolutely packed house for what some are calling the largest ever girls only wrestling tournament in Minnesota. Will be here for a couple of hours
Wow Chatfields kail Schott just won a state title at 182 in overtime 8-6. 10 months ago, Schott wasn't sure he was going to ever wrestle again. He's now a state champ.
Hey all, some personal news. On Thursday, I had surgery to remove 10 inches of my intestine. I'm back in GB resting comfortably. More than likely will be here past Christmas, but im looking forward to getting healthy and will see you all soon. For now tho, snuggles with this guy
Just got back from Mayo wrestling practice. The Spartans have over 80 kids out this year -- a 60% increase from last year. 16 girls too. They have to move mats and work out in the school lobby. Incredible job by Art Trimble and his staff.
Some news: Today was my last day at the Winona Daily News. My wife is the new school counselor at Owatonna Middle and we have moved. As for me, that's still a wait and see. I will miss my time in Winona, a lot of great, great people, who made these past 19 months a little easier.
So the Maleceks weekend went like this:
Amalia: 1600 champion
Lydia: 800 runners up
Kora: 3200 champion
And all 3 were a part of the 3200 relay team that placed second.
That’s one hell of a weekend.

Final: Plainview-Elgin-Millville 21, Cannon Falls 18.
What. A. Game. The Bulldogs are your Section 1AAA Champs and will be heading to state for the first time since 2011.
Kasson Wynia ends it with this pin. 27-20. Kasson-Mantorville is your Section 1, Class 2A Champs wow. How about that one folks. Also watch how high Travis wiuff lifts Ryan Hill into the air here. 😂
Caley Graber just made history. The freshman from Northfield becomes the first female to win a boys section 1 title. Hoping to have a story on her in the coming days
Meant to tweet this out, but
@Kovar_HJsports
and I both said after Byron was done with its press conference that it was the best press conference from a losing side we both had been a part of. Bears are winners on and off the court.
Aaron Rodgers just shouted out the Frosty Tip in Dyckesville. I heard there is also a great local lumberyard/hardware store/construction company right down the road. Family-owned since 1950 👀
Hey all, I'll be MIA until June 14 as I am getting married on Saturday and then honeymooning in Florida! Fingers crossed I come back to some state qualifiers.
Coaches, please email stats and results to sports
@winonadailynews
.com so the La Crosse guys can find it.
The wedding was seriously a dream that still doesn't feel real. Thanks to all that helped make that possible. A special thank you to Todd, Eric and Joe Mellenbruch who all went and above and beyond to fill in for me. Now it's time to get back to work.

With a pin from Bennett Berge, the
@kometwrestling
team is heading to the Class AA championship. KoMets face off against the matchup everyone wants to see in Simley. The two programs have won the past six Class AA titles.
Part 3 of the
@WinhawkF
Senior Spotlight: As a sophomore,
@jackson_12102
was an “unathletic” runner and ready to quit football. Read how the
@NSUWolves_FB
commit found his way to Aberdeen
Lake City's Max Balow is heading to the Class AA heavyweight championship after a thrilling 6-4 win by sudden victory. That gives the Rochester-area eight finalists.
After much blood, sweat and tears, the Mayo wrestling program is heading to the MSHSL state tournament for the first time. Story from today's Section 1AAA Championship:
Blooming Prairie's
@bobbiebruns3
scored a school record 37 points to go along with six assists and five steals in the Blossoms' 59-48 victory over Randolph. She accounted for 49 of BP's 59 points.
Caught up with
@DEWrestling
's Aidan Gasper today at the section meet. Chatted about how he's doing and just the amount of support he has received after suffering a scary injury just a few weeks ago. Check it out.
Today is the start of a series that will focus on each of the seven
@WinhawkF
seniors that will be playing college football next year. Stories will run every Sunday and Wednesday. First up is

commit
@bennett_heftman
FINAL: No. 5 Mayo 28, No. 4 St. Michael-Albertville 21.
Daniel Myszkowski picks off the heave into the end zone to cap off a gutsy effort to give Spartans their first playoff victory in Class 6A. Next up is top-seeded Stillwater next Friday
Black River Falls' senior
@e_anderson4
put up an eye-popping 48 points to help the Tigers beat Onalaska Luther 76-63. Was 14-for-26 from the field, 12-for-17 from inside the arc, 18-for-18 from the stripe. Has scored at least 20 in every game this season. Cannot be stopped
Hard to believe but today is my one year anniversary of working at the
@PB_News
. A lot has happened these past 12 months but thankful to be part of a great staff with
@PBFeldy
,
@pbpruff
and
@PBglimbeck
. Looking forward to many more.
And there is win No. 187 for Owen Denstad. The Upper Iowa commit is now the program's all-time career wins leader, passing Kasey Meiners, who said he couldn't have asked for anyone better to break it.
Caught up with Greg Jones of
@WinonaStateSB
. Tough for a senior class that won 82% of their games, but the Warriors were still able to honor them Friday in what is most likely their final games.
In 2017, my first football season in La Crosse, the Blugolds had to forfeit games because they didn't have enough bodies. Four years later, they are state champions. Head coach Tom Lee deserves a lot of credit as do the players players sticking with it. What a turnaround.
Made my second stop of the day in Mazeppa as two of the best in Class AA in No. 4 Kasson-Mantorville and No. 11 Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Check out this finish by Aiden Friedrich as he knocks off No. 3 ranked Jack Krier at 126 by a 5-3 decision. We are tied at 9

Here's the story from a truly great experience today in Pine Island. Crazy to think how far the sport of girls wrestling has come in the past 12-18 months.
Lydia Malecek finishes second in the Division 1 800. So far the Malecek triplets have a 1600 title and an 800 second place finish. Kora runs the 3200 tomorrow and all 3 are apart of the Hilltoppers 3200 relay team tomorrow.
