My grandmother was the same -- 1896-1996. Her first job title was "typewriter," which she did using a "typewriting machine." She only got the job because all the young men were in the army in 1915.

The white Americans often pushed the Black ones off the sidewalk if they didn't move aside for them. One night, the whole situation exploded into street fighting. So when she decided to emigrate, it was to Canada.

If he's really into paying for people's dinners, he should
donate to his local food bank. Or women's shelter, if he only likes paying for women's dinners.
5 years ago today I was under involuntary hold in a psych ward with severe suicidal ideation. "Involuntary" is a bit misleading, as I wasn't against it, but anyway, for people with similar thoughts, I just wanted to say that it really can get better.

When I was 20 and living in a university high rise, I got off the elevator on the wrong floor and went to what would have been, on the right floor, my place. Noticed all the stuff was different and left. Note: I was high as a kite.

This has been a known issue in many,many products for so long (I became aware of it more than 12 years ago) that the failure to find a solution seems like active malice at this point.

My English mother's first experience of Americans was with the soldiers, Black and white, who spent their evening leave in her town. The American military police ensured they didn't go in the same pubs. 1/2
Soon I'll be published in 4 countries! Very pleased to say that 2 of the poems from my first collection will be in the inaugural issue of

A good read, if you're interested even a little in the Theotokos, Mary Magadalene, or the medieval Church in the West

Good art doesn't come mostly from inspiration. It comes from time. The less time artists have to put into non-artistic work to pay rent, and into worrying about money, the more time they have to make art.
Ooh! I have a poem in the latest issue of Passengers Journal. I am too tired now to read the issue or listen to Liz Eichler's reading of my poem, but I am looking forward to both. Thanks,

I was very drunk, outside a bar where a predatory man I didn't know was ushering me to his car. A very tough looking lesbian told him I was with her, drove me home, and walked me up to my apartment.

Fuel rationing is what happens when a country is in a major war. If the govt is going to take sides in a war in a way that impacts prices in a major way they have an obligation to protect citizens from that impact.
I have a date, of all things. A pleasant man who was at the reading Saturday. I wish I were a more plausible match for him, or anyone. I don't think I'd want to get involved with me. I'm such a mess.

Maybe she knows her parents better than you do? I won a national poetry contest as a university student and my dad's response was that it would be nice if I wrote things he liked reading.
Applying for a job as a gallery assistant. Not great pay, of course, but nice benefits and working conditions. The last time this job was open another poet, so ... maybe that's a good sign? Wish me luck!

What a great thread. Thank you. I'm sitting here thinking about the weirdness of a system that allows my heirs to profit in perpetuity from a thing I bought (land, say), but not from a thing I made.

I think a lot of North Americans don't know how far north the UK is. Because it's not cold like the northern US or Canada, they assume it's further south than it is.

I'm in Alberta, the Canadian province north of Montana. It's a beautiful state, but it's no deal if we have to take the people too.
I am feeling much better than I have been for a while, and am no longer in the desperate straits I have been these past few days. Thank you to everyone who took the time to express concern and support. I appreciate it .🧡
Mad at myself. Earlier this morning I had an idea and a couple of lines for three linked sonnets and I said to myself "I'll write it down after I do this work stuff" and now I can't remember either the lines or even the idea.
Had my ms printed at the UPS store near me. When I went to pick it up, the guy asked "It's the .... POems???" with a very distinct "you are a weirdo" tone.

I was unarmed, of course, and nobody was home (or maybe they were in the bedroom). I like to think if I had been armed I would still not have shot anyone.
@MrHWM
You see this a lot, sadly. Writers with a lot of "raw talent" (for lack of a better term) but not much experience are having their writing treated with a hands-off approach that does nobody any favours.
@lesannsai
What shocked me was how blah-blah-blah show-offy the review was, while saying essentially nothing. I haven't read your work and I'd expect I'd know something about it after reading a review of it, but no.

It would be pretty easy to pass legislation to raise funds for reparations through special taxes on the heirs and successors of slave traders and slaveholders.

Trying to imagine a Montrealer who knows how far Montreal is from Brantford off the top of their head, or anything about it other than the name.
Wow -- keep your doors locked. A woman just walked into my house and shouted "You know, they're just not willing to leave you alone," and I don't know what that's about and am feeling a tad terrified.
So pleased to have these two poems in the first issue of
@theborough
, the wonderful new poetry journal out of Australia. Thanks, Clarence Caddell

I have written 15 thousand words over the past two days, and yeah -- it wasn't my own creative work or anything (it's PPTs and Facilitator Guides for Emergency Management training), but like -- FIFTEEN THOUSAND WORDS!
My dad couldn't take a decent photo to save his life, but here is a picture of my mom in 1975ish that I've been having visions of while meditating lately. In the visions, she's by a river. Man, she loved that suit.
@ebruenig
Thank you. You are dead on when you speak of our society's contempt for the vulnerable. Victims who don't report often, sadly have contempt for one's own vulnerability. I just want to cry.
