We don’t do it because we have to, we do it because it’s right. And it’s not like we’re struggling to do it, we’re doing a lot of good with minimal effort. And we can’t save everyone, but we can save a lot of people, and your argument basically does boil down to “fuck these people because they deserve shit”
Not to harsh everyone’s moral buzz but the moral premise of this (which turns out to be not so true on the details anyway) is that the us owes a permanent drip of charity to the world to prevent every single possible death. This is actually crazy, as much as people like to pretend otherwise.

Your whole concept of "realism" with Ukraine sounds exactly like the propaganda peddled by Western leftists during the Cold War. They constantly bleated about how we had to accept perpetual Soviet dominance over Eastern Europe due to "realism," "geography," etc. They blasted Reagan for refusing to accept their viewpoint and his decision to not accept this as a fait accompli but instead stand up to the Russians. History shows that they were wrong and Reagan was right. Today Russia is in a much weaker position than the USSR was in the '80s. To simply give up now and pursue a course of appeasement towards them out of fear for the supposed "consequences" of not doing so would be a major mistake.

North Korea is sanctioned, it is isolated, it is demonized. I’d say rightfully so. Even still, its capital looks like this, it has nuclear weapons, and a stubbornly persistent arms industry. It’s allegedly as wealthy as Haiti, but well, they’re not the same.
I guess I make this tweet because oftentimes you'll see Africans arguing the merits of this system, or the merits of this economic ideology or whatever, and in my younger days I did as well, but it really does not matter whatsoever, If you're competent enough, you can even run a mixed communist/state led developmental state and still get rich and have great outcomes.
