It’s raining. And the weather is grim. There are some floods in the city centre. And the news is very disheartening - but despite that all, Cork City is still shining this evening. We will prevail!

Saw this absolutely amazing "hair ice" this morning in Longford, it only forms under very specific conditions where water is drawn out of the wood and freezes in thin layers, stabilised by the fungus Exidiopsis effusa. A natural phenomenon!

A guy & a girl stopped when I was taking photos tonight at Bell's Field, & the guy said to me - "Imagine bringing a Dublin person up here on an evening like this? They'd never leave Cork!"
And I have to agree with the sentiment - even if he was after a few beverages😄

Couldn’t really have had a better weekend in West Kerry - Great Blasket Island & the Dingle Peninsula are absolutely breathtaking. And the weather! Thanks for looking after us

I honestly think this is the final nail in the coffin for Douglas. There can be no turning back - Douglas is no longer a village in which to spend time & to live, it is a car-dependent retail park where people come to shop & then leave - by car.
It's easy for
@corkcitycouncil
to hide behind planning & Seveso rules on this one, but reality is, they should work with
@PortofCork
to figure out HOW to make this work, rather than kill the best thing to happen for people living in Cork City for decades.
I think GIDDY is the way I'd describe my mood this weekend - dad fully vaccinated, mam vaccine appointment next week, I'm fully vaccinated, plan to ease restrictions is clear and exciting, bank holiday weekend, and taking in fresh West Cork air. GIDDY! 💉🏞️🌊
Absolutely amazing experience tonight at the brand new Sophie’s at The Dean for trial night - food was excellent, and a fantastic new space for Cork City. Exciting times!!

Let's not repeat the mistakes made in Skibbereen on the River Lee! Look at the state of this river-turned-sewer running through beautiful Skibb...

Absolutely beautiful morning for a cycle around the Blackrock greenway - taking in the newly pedestrianised Marina, which is an absolute joy! 🚴🏻🔴⚪️ Eyes are now fully open to amazing amenities within 5k radius.

This is legitimately exciting - a frequency of 5 mins between Kent & Glounthaune, and 10 mins on rest of East Cork network, is pretty much metro/subway frequency - gamechanger!
@CorkCommuter
Actually amazed to see this come in the door today from
@maryrdes
&
@TerryTshannon
- not a single positive thought on
@BusConnects
- 100% focused on potential downsides. We are living in a climate emergency - when will local councillors realise that change is essential! Amazed.
Imagine if you could walk from Broadale to Mount Oval directly? Would avoid the 34 min walk currently required! We need to factor more filtered permeability into our urban areas - access to shops, education, public transport by foot or bike. Proposal sent to local councillors.
@VodafoneIreland
This is not entirely correct - additionally there is no internet service at the moment with Vodafone home broadband. Not just Facebook outage related.
Flash floods hit
#Douglas
tonight as river bursts banks at Church Rd behind Douglas Park - receding quickly & businesses seem to be remaining dry. Can Douglas get a break!!

The rain in Cork City is unbelievable. Drains overflowing in Douglas. Some houses on Maryborough Hill nervously watching water pouring down their driveways.

It's like nature knew that today was the end of isolation for me, and put on a memorable show! Sunrise beauty. 🌅

The safety precaution in that case would have been not to drive in a storm. We can’t just remove nature from the world in this manner anymore - you can’t replace a 120 year old tree with a sapling & claim it’s equal, no one has the time to wait 120 years for it to grow again.
Garryduff Wood is actually essential to my sanity 🤗 A tree, a waterfall, a dog & a jay! The jay was great company today, followed us around the wood - lovely splash of colour he brings!

Gardening really brings me happiness. I love watching how nature interacts when you give it the chance! This lovely robin keeps me company on my morning break from work.
@BirdWatchIE
What better way to see the city - than from the river! Had a fantastic evening with Naoise & Mattei from
@jjkayaking
on both the South & North channels of the Lee. Reinforced the message - we need to protect this amenity 🏞️🌇🇮🇪

The River Lee tonight - swimming (that’s me looking very pale😂), walking, watching a kingfisher, fishing, and finally - a beautiful sunset at Lee Fields. The river is the life of the city!

Recent development in
#CorkCity
is very welcome, but the planning process has to be questioned. Capitol site on Grand Parade included a food court/link to the market - not delivered. Beamish site included visitor centre, viewing tower & cinema - no longer happening. A mockery!
Exploring Cork's Greenways! Mardyke - Fitzgerald's Park - Banks of the Lee - Lee Fields - Curraheen River Valley - Murphy's Farm Curraheen. 7km off-road cycle path all the way from the city centre to Bishopstown. Marked on green on the map!
