NEW: Abortion bans are fueling domestic violence in Texas.
The leading cause of death for pregnant women is homicide, often by an abusive partner with a gun. And Texas is forcing victims to stay pregnant, while making it easier for abusers to get guns.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) tries to mock Berkley law professor Khiara Bridges for using the phrase "people with the capacity for pregnancy" during a Senate hearing on abortion.
She was having none of it.

Carol Foulke, 93, heard about the repeal of Roe at her assisted living home yesterday and told her daughter they needed to come into DC protest.
She was a family planning social worker for underserved communities before Roe and knows the impact this will have.
BREAKING: Idaho governor quietly signed the abortion trafficking bill into law tonight. It's the first law to restrict interstate travel for abortion care since Roe fell.
The law goes into effect 30 days from today.
NEW: Twitter blocked promotion of a Democrat’s campaign video because it expressed support for abortion rights.
“The mention of abortion advocacy is the issue here,” a Twitter employee told North Carolina candidate Rachel Hunt.
Tibbetts had every right to run on her own. This is not a commentary on her actions, but a reflection on how the epidemic of violence against women (yes, it's a fucking epidemic) forces women to adapt & let go of things so integral to their well-being.
Any woman who calls herself a runner knows just how terrifying the Mollie Tibbetts story is. The lengths that women have to go to protect themselves from being alone in public spaces is restrictive, exhausting, fucking terrifying.
Just spoke with an abortion advocate who's protesting outside the Supreme Court. In between sobs, she kept having to tell a man to stop following her. Anti-choice protesters are out in plain clothes today following repro rights people.
JUST NOW: For the first time ever before Congress, an abortion rights advocate described how to self-manage the procedure using pills — giving a highly public platform to a method all the more vital now that SCOTUS overturned Roe.
BREAKING: An independent autopsy requested by George Floyd's family determined his death "was homicide caused by asphyxia due to neck and back compression."
Dr. Caitlin Bernard, the OB-GYN who provided care for a 10-year-old rape victim, “took every appropriate and proper action in accordance with the law,” according to her attorney. Bernard is considering legal action against several people including Indiana AG Todd Rokita.
*Also let me reiterate that the Mollie Tibbetts murder is not about immigration, it's about toxic masculinity and a culture that encourages men to respond with violence when rejected romantically.
“It makes me feel like the pro-life movement is a completely lie if, in order to be against people who are protesting for abortion rights, you try to murder them in my street, in my neighborhood," said Monk.
TO BE CLEAR: Abortion is still legal at the federal level. Roe has NOT been overturned. This is a draft majority opinion. The final decision comes out sometime in June, justices can change their votes before then.

Cuellar has been endorsed by Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Jim Clyburn & Hakeem Jeffries.
Gabriela Gonzalez traveled >500miles outside of Texas to get an abortion in hopes of escaping her abuser.
The GOP's deliberate policy decision to loosen gun laws + ban abortion gave him the tools to murder her.
A deadly new normal for women in Texas:
I found out a few years after that first break in that my sister was almost abducted by a few guys in a van while she was on a run in college. Thankfully, she was able to fight them off. I've never seen her go on a run since.
Wow. I knew I was going to get some harassment for reporting on the Biden allegation but my inbox & mentions are overflowing right now. What a wonderful addition to my nonstop anxiety during a global pandemic 🤦🏼♀️
Yesterday, my friend told me her mom stopped running after dark & bought an elliptical machine after her best friend was kidnapped & murdered while she was on a run.
The stark contrast between Kavanaugh's demeanor and tone vs. Christine Blasey Ford's is insane. This is how we've been conditioned: Women to be accommodating and eager to please; men to be loud, angry and righteous.

This comes a day after Little signed a law that bans trans minors from receiving gender-affirming care. Anyone guilty of violating the law faces a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Repro workers believe Biden is contributing to a repro health crisis in Gaza. They’re deeply frustrated with him + the big repro rights groups that are backing him.

Misoprostol can be used during emergencies, as well as miscarriage treatment, labor induction, or IUD insertion.
But because it is used for abortion, misoprostol has been targeted by conservatives in Louisiana — an unprecedented move for a medication that routinely saves lives.

NEW: A HuffPost investigation found that at least nine extremists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 have a history of violence against women ranging from domestic violence accusations to prison time on sexual battery charges.
When I got depressed, instead of smoking a cigarette I would run (err, most of the time). I put my headphones in, spandex shorts & t-shirt on, and I would run circles in a small neighborhood off campus.
First time ever, I believe, a witness has explained step-by-step how to self-manage an abortion with pills.

NEW: Glenn Youngkin -- who has for years presented himself as a moderate candidate -- is quietly funding anti-choice extremists down ballot through his PAC ahead of Virginia's critical November elections.
It's looking like voters are going to defend abortion in all 5 states with ballot measures:
-MI, CA & VT enshrined abortion rights in state constitutions
-KY looks like they're going to reject a constitutional abortion ban
-And MT likely to reject anti-choice referendum
I lived near the UCLA campus so most of the people around me were students. Aside from a few catcalls, I ran for months uninterrupted. I ran a different route every single time. I felt safe. It felt so fucking good.
I graduated and moved to LA. And that city just made my depression so much fucking worse. So I ran. A lot. Like a shit ton. I ran every single day, sometimes twice a day.
A few months later I moved to NYC. I had stopped running in the midst of a new job & the stresses of realizing I was, apparently, a full-blown adult. Eventually, my depression returned as it always does. I started running again.
During my last year at school, I was napping on a Wednesday afternoon (as college kids do) when a man attempted to break into my first-floor bedroom window and climb into bed with me.
Nowhere in the country has embraced the fetal personhood movement like Alabama, where today women are feeling in the fallout in everything from IVF access to miscarriage management to pregnancy criminalization:
A slew of amendments filed today for SB300 -- Florida's 6-week abortion ban, which heads to a full senate vote tomorrow.
But I'm lol'ing at Sen. Minority Leader Lauren Book (D)'s amendment to change the name from the “Heartbeat Protection Act” to this:

Sabreen Jouda came into the world seconds after her mother left it. The baby's mother, who was 30 weeks pregnant with her, died along with the baby's father and sister in an Israeli airstrike.

The bill creates a whole new crime, dubbed “abortion trafficking," which would be a felony, and those found guilty would face two to five years in prison.
