Today I led a walkabout in Trimdon Station to discuss what more can be done to tackle crime hotspots. I’m working with Police & Crime Commissioner Joy Allen, Cllr Lucy Hovvels and Parish Council Chair Carole Bell to push for more action to clamp down on anti-social behaviour.

Really good to visit Durham Sixth Form Centre to meet with students from Newton Aycliffe and Spennymoor to talk about a wide range of issues. It was also great to chat to the senior leadership team about skills and harnessing aspiration in our area.

Beautiful sunny day to be out talking to residents in Spennymoor with Labour council candidates. Lots of people raising issues about the state of services after years of the Tories and Lib Dems leading Durham County Council. Time for change at the council elections in May.

Great to meet Ferryhill County Councillor Peter Atkinson to discuss the work we’re doing together to open a Banking Hub and tackle a derelict building in the town centre. Very sad Peter’s announced his well-deserved retirement! He’s a fantastic public servant for our area.

Proud to vote for Labour’s plan to protect our children, open free breakfast clubs, improve schools and crack down on profiteering in children’s social care. While the Tories spent today spreading misinformation, the Labour government’s been busy fixing the country.
