Was surprised yesterday to know that Springer Editorial Manager does not support Tikz files or sub-folders in Latex. A mammoth effort to re-plot everything and put PDF files instead. Tikz looks so much nicer :(

Year-end summary: Enjoyed 365 days of interacting with students! Enjoyed doing research and teaching. PS: Rest of the metrics can take a backseat!

“He often worked 15 hours a day, complaining that each discovery cost a night’s sleep, and in 1890 alone published an astounding fourteen scientific articles on the nervous system” - this is said about Ramon y Cajal, a stalwart in neuro. 14/year was once astounding! Good times!

@SAnsumali Metaphorically, using process over outcome (at all times) is like a chakravyuha. Helps only some selected people in the middle of it. Very few people can break it!

@chenna1985 Pass rate is a bad metric unless coupled with quality. Because this could easily trigger a culture of “grade inflation”

@stellensatz @ShivAroor I don’t disagree. But that excuse will (or has already) start(ed) to become stale.

@SAnsumali I have achieved bureaucratic nirvana! Nothing bothers me anymore. Like Krishna said, my only goal is to keep punching without expectations.

@abhijit_MLab Initially I was a bit stunned about the indirect. But if you go around there are lots of resources that can be accessed for free if this is led by a PhD student (like 3d printing, imaging etc.). The indirect go into building all these central facilities that everyone can use
