4 mos since my military retirement:
I still don't understand why Americans are so angry. Most don't realize how lucky they are. Most don't realize that the peace & prosperity they luxuriate in are provided to them by the liberal international order they're happy to discard.
I remember my brother, Colonel Sorhab Azimi, who the Taliban executed after his team —- ran out of ammunition —- surrendered with their hands up.
He was my friend and he deserved better.
Everyone wants to pretend Afghanistan didn’t happen. Well, it did.
Last week, I picked up my last interpreter from the airport bc he was in hiding for 2 yrs.
There are more of our allies being hunted & killed bc they believed in us.
This is causing a tsunami of moral injury
Remember when Trump signed the Doha surrender agreement? He excluded our Afghan allies and forced them to release 5K prisoners.
Both sides own this. Don't be that way.
Retired after 20 years, with 4 1/2 years in Iraq & Afg.
The best thing I did in my career was helping evacuate our Afghan allies.
And serving alongside thousands of others who have spent the last 2 1/2 years upholding the promise.
We. Don’t. Leave. People. Behind.
Should the IDF have warned locals about a CT operation before they launched it?
Look, Obama, why didn't you tell the Pakistanis you were going to do the operation in Pakistan? Probably could've saved some of UBL's family members.
My heart is still broken over Afghanistan.
Daily, I weep over the allies we left behind.
I struggle w/PTSD, Moral Injury, & numerous TBIs. It’s nearly destroyed me.
Where is the accountability?
Let us finally speak the truth.
America’s Afghan Combat vets deserve it.
The Afghanistan army fought against the Taliban bravely and till now they continues resisting under

Immaculate warfare only exists in Hollywood. War will never be clean. It can never be devoid of killing, mistakes, tragedy, and regret. These are inherent in its nature.
Please, listen to me. I spent 4+ yrs in Iraq and Afghanistan. I spent my life studying these groups at every level.
They're coming for us. Just because you leave the battlfield doesn't mean your enemies won't come after you
The Forever Wars Never Ended
3 years ago, I cried in agony as the Taliban shattered my life's work.
I remember my friends, like General Surab Azimi, who the Taliban executed.
I remember the Afghans we left behind.
I remember our Afghan sisters living in an apartheid regime.
I remember.
It’s a special type of chutzpah to tell someone not to overreact while they’re literally being attacked.
Perhaps, I don’t know, wait until the Iranian attacks are over first?
If you’re critiquing Netanyahu for not resigning after 7 Oct (which I’m very sympathetic to)
You’d better be screaming about the lack of accountability over Afghanistan.
Maybe we should hold ourselves accountable first before we go demanding it from our allies?
I'm genuinely curious—what do you want me to do? Should I avoid visiting Afghanistan altogether? How do you expect a tourist to navigate politics with the Taliban? Even if I didn’t take a photo with them, would that change anything? As a foreign tourist, I'm just interested in
Was tired by the end so let me make this crystal clear as I tripped over my words on
@ShawnRyanShow
.
Hamza bin Laden’s first wife is the daughter of
#Taliban
founder Mullah Omar. So the
#DohaDeal
wasn’t just with the Taliban it was with the Bin Ladens. End the deal, NOW!
I've been retired from military service for less than a month.
I have one question.
Why is everyone here in the US so angry?
The freedom you enjoy is astounding. Luxuriate in it, but also show a sense of gratitude.
I know thousands of people who would kill to be here.
When the Iranians killed my friends in Iraq, we never responded to Iran directly.
Always worried about escalation.
When the Iranians killed my friends in Afghanistan, we never responded to Iran directly.
Always worried about escalation.
How much longer do they get to do this?
All this Trump is strong crap is hilarious.
Trump is so strong that he signed a surrender agreement with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. You know the groups that murdered 5K Americans.
My hero, John McCain, was a great American.
But plucking you from obscurity and giving you a platform was one of his greatest blunders.
You're a disgrace.
These people are despicable, & this is heartbreaking. Your US Congressmen waving Ukrainian flag - not our flag - whilst celebrating $100billion foreign aid package, most for the fake Ukrainian “conflict” that diverts your US tax dollars from our own security & sovereignty. Your
Can my fellow Americans mad about the Gaza War give 1% of that passion to our Afghan brothers and sisters suffering under the Taliban? Our allies are being hunted and killed -- and nobody gives a sh*t?
Reminder: The Taliban and Al Qaeda killed 70,000 Afghan security force members.
The murdered 2,000 Americans
They're now raping, murdering, and butchering our Afghan allies we betrayed on the battlefield.
Why are we working with the Taliban?
The All Volunteer Force allows Americans to fight wars with a small committed group of Americans.
More professional for sure.
But when wars are lost, that same small group grieves alone.
That's me in Ghorak, Kandahar.
Village Stability Platform (VSP) Ghorak.
I was an advisor to the district governor, supporting Village Stability Operations.
I also remember the motley crew of Afghan evac volunteers who saved tens of thousands.
Heroes. Every one of them. No matter how long you were in the fight - I'm proud to have served with the most elite/courageous group of misfits in American history.
I remember.
Reminder: Al Qaeda is currently in power in Afghanistan.
Sirajuddin Haqqani is Al Qaeda.
He is the Minister of Interior.
That should scare everyone to death.
But it doesn’t because people are rightly ashamed of our conduct in Afghanistan.
You’ve been warned.
This is Mullah Omar’s son, Mullah Yaqoob. Yaqoob is the brother-in-law of al-Qaeda’s Hamza bin Laden and is the son-in-law of Mullah Berader who negotiated the
#DohaDeal
on behalf of the
#Taliban
and the Bin Ladens. They played us for fools.
‼️END THE DOHA DEAL TODAY!
Taliban senior officials meet with Hamas' Isma'il Haniyah in Tehran. Note that the Taliban publicized this, but Hamas didn't. Make that of what you will.
The Taliban are terrorists. They aren't our partners. They are still allied with Al Qaeda.
It doesn't have to end this way.
We can help our Afghan allies take back their country.
The only true CT policy for AFG is one where the Taliban doesn't rule.
Taliban members have shot and killed two former soldiers who served during the republic government in Afghanistan’s eastern Parwan province, local sources reported.

Has anyone at the DNC mentioned Afghanistan?
Abbey Gate? The Doha Agreement? 2K+ dead Americans?
How about the Taliban? Al Qaeda? Or the Islamic State?
The great forgetting right before our eyes
I got a lot of presents yesterday at my retirement ceremony. A lot of wonderful people spoke kind words.
But this letter from
@rahmanrahmanee
's daughter is my most cherished possession.
He abandoned our Afghan allies on the battlefield.
That happened.
I bear those scars.
And he’s covered himself in dishonor by legitimizing the killers drenched in American blood.
Let’s not forget that. That’s also part of his legacy.
President Biden will go down in history as one of our greatest Presidents. Accomplishing more in 4 years than many accomplished in 8 years. He is also an honorable man. A decent man. And a person who has always put the country first.
The men & women who made this happen are not pictured here. They are not featured in this article. There are thousands of vets/service members/activists who are still fighting daily to get their allies out.
#US
today we welcome a warrior to his retirement
@AggieWill00
a man who dedicated so much for the mission in dark times. It was Colonel Selber and many other allies who stood by their Afghan partners. We are grateful for those efforts, saving many lives. Will is a true warrior
This is why I feel like my country has betrayed me and my brother and sisters in arms.
This man murdered American soldiers! Killed our Afghan allies!
And he’s killing those Afghans we left behind.
A betrayal of such magnitude that I can barely comprehend it.
It's so disheartening that VPHarris thinks giving Afghanistan to the Taliban was a good idea.
Afghan women are being raped, murdered, and tortured.
American progressives told Afghan women to come out from the shadows.
Now, they've abandoned them.
The delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan led by the central spokesperson
@Zabehulah_M33
is on its way to Doha, Qatar for participation in the UN conference on Afghanistan.
Trump is so strong that he forced our Afghan partners to release 5K Talibs who immediately returned to the battlefield while simultaneously preventing Afghans from launching offensive operations.
That’s not strength. That’s cowardice.
I wish people protested over the abandonment of our Afghan allies as they do Gazans.
For nearly 3 years, the Taliban has conducted an assassination campaign vs. our allies.
It is happening right before our eyes -- and America shrugs its shoulders.

Yesterday I testified before congress and I asked for a United approach on the matter of global terrorism emanating from Afghanistan under Taliban. We offered a new partnership request to US congress for combating terrorism as we embark on quest to free our nation
Hi America,
I know you're upset about Gaza. I get it. I spent 1500 days in Iraq and Afghanistan. War is awful. No matter what.
But perhaps you can spare some of your time to help our Afghan allies?
🧵
I served under 4 different POTUSs in Afghanistan.
W - trusted Pakistan too much & didn’t resource building the ANA
Obama - Surge was a disaster, got ahead of the Afghans in peace talks
Trump - Doha
Biden - retreated
We are all to blame for Afghanistan
A year ago, I checked into a mental hospital for PTSD, Moral Injury, and multiple TBIs.
It was all for the Afghans--zmaa andiwaal--that I left behind. What I saw inside those walls, changed my life.
I Remember the Afghans We Left Behind

This is the identity card of Jawad, a former special forces officer who was shot dead by the Taliban under the name of "thief" in Kabul on Sunday (May 12).
Along with Jawad, three Panjshiri youths were also killed by the Taliban.
Why are we meeting with the TB this week in Doha?
The Taliban is still allied with Al Qaeda, who killed 3,000 Americans on 9-11.
The Taliban, Haqqani, and Al Qaeda killed 2,000 Americans in Afghanistan, ~1k NATO allies, and ~70K ANSF.
Why is my country dishonoring me?
Zan News - Kunduz: The Taliban in Kunduz province have imprisoned a girl named Shaista in the provincial center for opposing a forced marriage to a man she has never met.
Local sources confirmed to the media on Saturday (29 June) that the Taliban have imprisoned the girl and her
Taliban co-founder laughs with “American” Ambassador.
FYI, Taliban killed 3000 + American soldiers.
Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad seems to love the Taliban leader more than the Taliban leader loves himself.
@ShawnRyan762
and I discussed him in detail:
Your Daily Reminder: Al Qaeda now controls the state of Afghanistan.
They are growing stronger, attracting foreign fighters, and building something that will make Hamas' tunnels pale in comparison.
They're coming for us.
Too many of our Afghan allies remain underground while the Taliban and Al Qaeda hunt for them.
There’s a better way.
Arm them to overthrow a group that murdered 3K Americans on 9-11 & killed 2300 in AFG.
They are not our partners. They are evil.
@michaelgwaltz
I served with the Germans in Kunduz. I served with them in MeZ. The German ODA was very effective.
In fact, the Germans & Italians had RC-N & W for the entire war.
So they have done quite a bit, regardless of their caveats.
@Timodc
@SarahLongwell25
I forgot all those times you guys kept me from writing about my war experiences and criticizing the last 20 years of war. . . oh wait.
Serving in the military isn't a shield from poor choices.
Please, do me a favor: read my latest essay. It's important. IMO, it's pretty good.
What Israel’s Killing Fields Taught Me About America's Wars
Grateful to

@pennbarker
@martynwendell
for their incredible edits.
When America was attacked on 9/11, Ukraine sent troops to Afghanistan to support us.
When Ukraine was attacked, they didn't ask for American troops—just weapons to defend themselves.
They answered our call. We should answer theirs.
1/4- The day of the signing of the Doha Agreement is the day of recognizing the freedom, Independence and dignity of Afghans. The signing of the agreement by the occupier was an acknowledgment that the Islamic Emirate is a liberation movement and inheritor of this land.
The Taliban is planning more public executions.
I know, I know, Ukraine.
But try to remember our allies who fought with us for 20 years.
They are crying out for their freedom, too.
We limited the Afghans to “active defense” while the Taliban conducted a ruthless assassination campaign.
Then we forced them to release 5K prisoners.
Then abandoned them to an enemy we couldn’t defeat but blamed them for losing the war anyway.
Shameful.
Sirajuddin Haqqani murdered 2K Americans.
He’s a monster.
There’s a $10M reward on his head.
Yet he’s openly near a US military base in the UAE.
Someone owes America’s gold star families an explanation.
Horrendous.
Rest in Peace brother. This is Colonel Abdul Jamil Zadran former Afghan Special Forces commander. He was detained by Taliban intelligence after they found out that he was going to US, imprisoned for two months and tortured inhumanly. He was released last week after he lost much
Many of the same people
dunking on Kissinger for being a heartless SOB are the same people who blocked and tackled on the decision to abandon our Afghan allies to a terrorist group
who killed 2500 Americans.
Unbelievable
I remember my Afghan allies.
The men and women who protected me through 3+ years in Afghanistan.
Too many of them remain behind enemy lines.
It’s not too late to do the right thing.
I love all the foreign policy analysis that pretends Afghanistan didn't happen.
When you abandon one ally, you create a permission structure for your domestic political opponents to leverage, abandoning another for their political advantage.
A periodic reminder that Donald Trump ushered in the Doha Agreement which excluded our Afghan allies. The Taliban violated while Trump was in office. He also forced GIRoA to release 5K Talibs.
I know bc I was in Afghanistan at the time.
Periodic reminder the catastrophe in Afghanistan that put the terrorists back in charge & left Americans behind happened because of Joe Biden.
Hold him accountable in November.
23 years ago, Al Qaeda, aided by their Taliban allies, killed over 3,000 Americans.
They're now back in power.
It's not too late to do the right thing.
And the country is transfixed on Trump & the brouhaha over an LSU female basketball player.
The fact that we gave billions to a country that killed our sons and daughters is barely discussed.
Samiullah Mohammadi, the person responsible for the suicide attacks of the
#Haqqani
network, says in the Frontline PBS's documentary "America and the Taliban" that "Pakistan's army was training us to destroy Afghanistan government and kill Americans." He said that at that time,
My brother, Ritchie, paying respects to SrA Yelner - KIA 29 April 2008.
Ritchie survived the IED that took both of his legs but killed Yelner.
He is an American hero.
