When I started PhD, I went to class having written down 3 things to say/ask. Made myself say 1st thing early—I knew the longer I waited, the harder it was. Soon I was writing down 1 thing & trusting myself to come up with rest in class, until I didn’t need to anymore.

- Asking a good question can be better than having the right answer.
- Sometimes it can be useful just to state the obvious.

Early this afternoon, our City vaccinated our first homebound senior, a 99 year old resident of West Avenue who received his shot from our Fire Chief Virgil Fernandez. We need more vaccine! Every day we don’t vaccinate people puts them in danger.

I was walking on this path, with my youngest daughter in her stroller, on the way to the grocery store, when the plane flew overhead and crashed into the first tower straight ahead. A man hosing down the sidewalk turned to me and said in Spanish, that was on purpose.

Lots of people have asked about the photo of Poly that appeared in
@NewYorker
piece. It was the photo taken for the passport he was never issued. Found it in album my mom made for him for after her death. Her note on it is haunting.
I started reading this story last night bec the picture of the boy in the image drew me in. By the end of it I was devastated and suffered w/ the author
as a daughter, sister, mother. In admiration of Ferrer’s courage&honesty, no irony sarcasm or other protection in this writing
