@UofA_FireWater And the main goal is to track en route mortality but we also hope to help verify distribution and stock genetics.

@UofA_FireWater These flights supplement stationary towers we have throughout the watershed, and given its size we only fly each sub-drainage once. Even the flights we do aren’t enough to cover everything, as we’d likely need ~20+ days to cover everything once.

Weir and sonar on #FishingBranchRiver are installed. The chum return is forecast to be one of the lowest on record, with estimates of ~8,000 to return here. The next few weeks will finish the 2024 CND chum story.

We slung ~10,000 lbs of gear across eight loads and two day to #FishingBranchRiver. Not without issue, but never dull traveling up the Dempster hwy. #YukonRiverSalmon

Help me understand how a catastrophic failure at the Vic gold mine in Yukon occurred weeks ago and imaging of the result is mere drone pictures, if you’re lucky. Meanwhile, I’ve been inundated with amazing imaging of this remarkable slide, hours after it happened.

It's difficult to appreciate the sheer scale of the landslide blocking the Chilcotin River. These incredible images come from the good folks at GeoBC and are the latest videos from the slide. #bcpoli

The Pprcupine River at our salmon assessment camp and ~2 km downstream of Old Crow, Yukon. The river rose 3 m earlier this week, covering our sonars in over 2 m of water. Tomorrow I get to return to the river, armed with custom grapple hooks and chain, to retrieve the sonars.

@JonesSebastian Yes! Our sonar stands are currently submerged and unable to be recovered while the water continues to increase. But it looks like levels should start dropping today.

@xjackiehong There currently is no escapement goal, nor has there been a bilaterally agreed upon goal for a couple of years. This year, however, there is a rebuilding target which is set at 71,000 Chinook passing the border into Canada.

We focus a lot of our effort on monitoring Chinook and chum numbers entering Canada, so it’s great to have research questions to consider. A lot of folks have contributed to the work on the Kluane and I hope to continue by improving our knowledge of the habitat and these fish.
