One of our global users of the eumetsat osisaf winds regrets the end of a very successful ocean wind series from ASCAT-A. Fortunately, we continue with a constellation of operational scatterometers at for our global users.
(2/2 - Nov. 25, 2021) - Attached is a picture of the very last ASCAT-A data taken over the Gulf of Mexico. For those of us in tropical and marine operations, the scatterometers are critical for our assessments of surface winds over huge swaths of the oceans. Thanks, @eumetsat !

First satellites to improve our understanding of interactions between the air and the ocean surface by simultaneous measurements of wind, waves, currents, sea surface thermal differences and cloud motion, enabling unprecedented views of the marine atmospheric boundary layer.
.@esa has chosen Harmony 🛰🛰to move to the next phase, Phase-A, of development as the tenth Earth Explorer. Harmony is envisaged as a mission with two satellites that orbit in formation with one of the @CopernicusEU #Sentinel1 satellites. ➡️

@ECMWF @esa @ESA_EO The prediction of the impact of Aeolus has indeed been a 20-year forecast! And over which we started to assimilate 2 orders of magnitude more satellite instruments to improve weather forecasts. Yet, at half the desired power, we just achieve our goal of demonstrating NWP impact!

The first laser to improve weather forecasts, a precedent hopefully, we now learned how to do this in Europe :)
The #Aeolus mission has just reached another milestone! After months of tests and quality checks, the satellite's wind profiles are now being included by our colleagues at @ECMWF into their weather forecasts. ℹ️

Excellent news after long preparations with many colleagues; very rewarding to hear that Aeolus is now improving weather forecasts in operations at ECMWF!
We could not have hoped for a better start to 2020 than announcing the operational use of wind data from the ground-breaking #Aeolus satellite: A big thank you to @esa @ESA_EO for making Aeolus happen, and Happy New Year to all.
