My friend's daughter who "bravely" came out as a lesbian at the age of 10 to much applause and affirmation, is struggling at age 13 to tell her friends that she actually likes boys. My friend feels (I shit you not) let down 🙄
Need to add a disclaimer here. The correct reaction to your 10yo making such a declaration is "that's nice dear". The issue here is that my friend became so invested in her daughter's "special identity", it has made it incredibly hard for her daughter to "be" anything else 😔
@BoyGeorge
Only men can be transw*men. Being a man, is a prerequisite. Women can't be transw*men. People can "identify" how they please, but humans can't change sex and sex matters in some, very specific circumstances. So no, TW are not women.
Bit of a long thread...but I'm celebrating a small (actually quite big) win IRL.
My 11yo has just got back from school, and told me they've been doing all about the "trans stuff" today in PHSE (she knew I'd be interested, because I'm *always* going on about it 🙄). 1/
I asked her to imagine if I'd said she could be a boy back then - and that being trans was cool and brave...she looked at me and said...(I'm still reeling) "thanks for not doing that mum."
She still thinks I talk about it far too much - but I think she understands why, now. 7/
She said she remembers me telling her she was a girl, and that one day she would be a woman, and there was nothing that could change that. But that she could play with whatever she liked and wear boys clothes if that's what she wanted to do (she did, she chooses not to now). 6/
and I wanted to learn more about it. But the more I read, and the more I researched, the more I understood what was going on, and that of course she wasn't "trans" because there's no such thing! 5/
And she told me that she remembered people saying to her that she was trans when she was around 7. So I told her that the reason I started looking into all this, was because I also thought she might be (I'm deeply ashamed of this - I was one of the BeKind people)...4/
The
#parkrun
shit-show has finally made the
@BBC
news!!! But only because the menz are upset the can't see their times anymore. Just a bit of fun though, eh?
So I asked her if we did that with her...and she said no, that we always let her play with what she wanted.
So I said that the reason I talk about trans stuff a lot, was that some people thought that she was trans when she was little, because she liked "boys" stuff. 3/
Anyway, I asked what they were talking about. She said the teacher was banging on about how boys are given "boys toys" like trucks and dinosaurs and girls were given "girls" toys from when they are born, and it shouldn't be like that. 2/
Genuine question. So many adults seem to be getting diagnosed with ADHD at the moment. Most of them seem able to function perfectly well in their jobs and social lives. So what is to be gained by getting a diagnosis? Am I missing something?
Just want to add - this post isn't about what an amazing parent I am, it's about how lucky I feel to have dodged a bullet...and more importantly how incredibly chuffed I feel that my daughter acknowledged that as well. I have nothing...
@RichardDawkins
I really don't know why they see the existence of DSDs as a gotcha when talking about trans stuff. Unless their argument is that all trans identified people have a DSD, it has no bearing on the debate whatsoever.
@AGallagherAlly
You've missed the point of my post. The point is that my kid was told by adults that she might be trans. When she was 7. If I had said yes, you could be - she would've gone all in. It might surprise you to know, that a lot of children are very suggestible...
@zoesqwilliams
Like many of us, he did the reading. Once you see it, Zoe - you can't unsee it. Humans can't change sex. This is not a controversial statement. It's so good to see people waking up 🙏❤️♀️
@Livefromreality
Absolutely this...so many parents don't understand the implications of "affirming". They think they're being "progressive" and "kind" 🙄
I'm sure, like most men, Nicky isn't a predator. However, most men completely understand why women need their own spaces in certain circumstances. What makes him different to other men? Why does he think he has the to violate women's boundaries?
I had another lovely session going to the water park with a couple of friends again and this time I made sure to walk away with some photos that I know will piss TERFs/GCs off.
@JournalistJill
The entire year 10 at my kids' school are reading this. The consensus is "it's rubbish". Their teacher is also eye rolling his way through it as well, which is excellent to hear!
@Femi_Sorry
@rickygervais
Lifelong leftie here - I've been called a fascist for understanding humans can't change sex. I found his joke funny, because the "progressive" left have indeed lost their collective minds on some issues.
Also, Femi...you're literally demonstrating his point.
And, of course, there are many parents who lose their children to this cult despite all their efforts to protect them - I just can't imagine how difficult that must be ❤️🙏
@MejaActual
I suspect you'll be dropping the hormones soon? Most women your age will be entering menopause. What steps will you take to replicate the symptoms of this biological reality? I'm sure you can't wait to experience the euphoria of a hot flush 🙄
@billybragg
@HadleyFreeman
@ewendj
@suzanne_moore
Most "TERFS" support trans rights, Billy. They're human beings and should have the same rights as us all. What we don't accept is that humans can change sex. And sex matters in some specific circumstances. Our position on this will never change (see also: the earth is not flat)
@TransKidsRule
Of course he is. Have you got any idea how hard it is for them to desist when you're all cheering them on? My kid found it hard enough to tell us she no longer wanted to be a vegetarian when she was 12 - it had become such a huge part of her "identity". Tell your son the truth.
@GMB
@Docstockk
Kathleen is a moderate. She's happy to use preferred pronouns, and indulge the fiction that someone has changed sex...to a point. Sometimes it really matters - as such, the definition of "woman" should exclude ALL males. This is not an extreme or hateful position.
@NadiaWhittomeMP
Understanding humans can't change sex, is not "demonising" trans people. When are you going to acknowledge this very basic fact, so we can all move on?
but sympathy for the vast majority of parents whose kids fall into the "trans" trap - with the exception of a minority of zealots who should be locked up, most parents genuinely think they're doing the right thing by affirming...
@KirstieMAllsopp
She didn't "frame your position" in any way. You've been shown the evidence of "no debate" - something you seem hellbent on denying ever happened. It's just weird.
@terrychristian
Nobody will say out loud that it is about immigration. But it is. The racists are beginning to feel emboldened. It's always been there, but people weren't allowed to talk about it by the "pc brigade". That idiotic shouty man down the pub, is about to become normalised. Cant wait.
@PerisMusings
@wesstreeting
He's acting on the recommendations made in the Cass review. Which was carried out by experts. That's how these things work.
@nectarinedreamx
Tough day at school? Suggest get off twitter, go and have your turkey twizzlers, then get your homework done. It's not going to do itself, is it young man!! 😘
THE WPATH FILES
Advocates of gender-affirming care say it’s evidence-based.
But now, newly released internal files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) prove that the practice of transgender medicine is neither scientific nor medical.

@Katyeatssweets
Absolutely. I know for a fact, my daughter would've gone all in if I had been captured. It's terrifying! You're daughter sounds phenomenal ♀️❤️🙏

@BBCWomansHour
@PompeySteph
@Emmabarnett
I agree...to a point. But "operation: Let them speak" doesn't work unless they are given platforms. Also, we all peaked at some point. Emma sounded angry. I sense she's had enough, and that can only be good for us.
@PerisMusings
@wesstreeting
It said there wasn't enough evidence to support their safe use. Why would you want children to take medication that could potentially harm them?
@Ilikeottersbest
I know, right? I thought she was going to come out as "non binary". Seems she's going the other way. She may well find that she's attracted to girls as well as boys, but all the applause makes it difficult for them to explore.
@suzanne_moore
Only when my nana, in the final days of terminal cancer, was euthanised (with my grandad's consent). My mum's final days were absolutely horrific. We wouldn't let a dog die like that. I understand the concerns around assisted dying, but there's definitely an argument for.
...had friends, partners, jobs....etc. I really appreciate those who have shared their stories here, and I do get it now - it really wasn't my intention to minimise your experiences. All that being said....Owen Jones is still a c**t.
@NapatNoon1
@Tachardiella
I had the biggest crush on Debbie Harry when I was about 7. If I'd been asked, I probably would've said I was into girls...the problem is all the adults cheering it on and being so invested - it really makes it difficult for young people to explore things properly.
@AGallagherAlly
They also like to feel they're doing the "right thing" to please their parents (see Susie Green's TED talk). My daughter, today, thanked me for not cultivating the seed that was planted by others, thus leading her down a path of irrevocable life-changing medicalisation...
@LindaAizlewood
@BBCWomansHour
How do you propose we defend women's rights if we are unable to define what a woman is? This is basic. And it needs addressing.
@cubedreamer
Completely agree. It's important to normalise same sex relationships, but a parent being so invested with their child's sexuality at such a young age is not a good thing ♥️
