My last words on this (until I want to tweet about it again, sometime in the future) 1) I'm most glad to see there's zero academic peer review that counters Fatima Mernissi and Leila Ahmed's brilliant historical inquisition into the classist and sexist origins of the hijab. May more Muslim women become scholars 🙏🏻 2) My piece ( is largely based on Ahmed and Mernissi's work and is pro choice. It is against the essentialization of hijab as women's bodies are strictly their own. 3) For 3 days many faith-ers wanted me to accept their view of their faith. This happens a lot on my TL and I feel very special that my validation matters so much to you. Cute!! 4) But I'm a historian, and history academia is what I hold in high regard. My interest in the history of religions will continue and I will be exploring so much more of it on my channel and Twitter etc, as I have been doing so far. 5) Your faith can stand against history academia but expertise is expertise and for a good reason. Let's all be glad people's faiths don't decide history/medicine academia, India is already seeing the horrible side of it in *both* fields. 6) A few women were of the opinion that history acads interpretation of the primary source is incorrect. I'd like to remind them that at least history academia allows women to interpret primary sources, meanwhile I do not know of any female mujtahids ever. Academia-1, Faiths-0 7) Lastly, I'm deeply indebted to all the slut shamers on my TL, who argued pro choice while judging my attire.
