been thinking about the doom II regular bestiary recently, and... what an effective set of enemies. with the exception of spectre, maybe, every enemy has a distinct reason to be in the game and without too much overlap in what they're used for?

@apfiiez Eternal rule: profile your shader and figure out if its good or bad Rule of thumb: branching is bad when it produces uneven times across the warp; so as long as both sides of your if statement are similar enough (oftentimes the only difference is what color you store!) its okay

@and_coder @iquilezles This isn't very useful for shaders because youre never shipping bytecode anyway so output cannot be known; but you should definitely profile the shader or just learn that step()s reference implementation is a ternary and branching is fine as long as its consistent across the warp

It was impossible to not get spoiled on sunbreak when that came out but wilds is going to be so much worse i realize especially since I'll likely not play it for another four years or so

game engines arent just bad at things for no reason; if RE Engine is bad at open spaces thats not just a quirk of the engine that you have to live with especially if you *made* the engine. You profile that and you figure out *why* its bad at open spaces
