Creating more states will surely boost the economy by decentralizing development, improving infrastructure, and creating jobs. It ensures better distribution of government resources, enhances agricultural and industrial growth, and increases internally generated revenue. More states also reduce rural-urban migration, strengthen regional trade, and attract investments. I hope this bill pass as fast as the Tax Reform Bill.
The requirements that must be fulfilled to initiate the process of state creation include the following: (a) a request, supported by at least two-thirds majority of members (representing the area demanding the creation of the new State) in each of the following, namely:- (i) the Senate and the House of Representatives. (ii) the House of Assembly in respect of the area. (iii) the local government councils in respect of the area. Section 8 (l) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), outlines these specific requirements that must be fulfilled to initiate the process of state creation.
