Let that sink in. This is the issue for Recruitment and Retention crisis in the EYs.
A visit to the hospital tonight with my mum as she isn’t too well. However this is the scene at Heartlands Hospital in Bham. There are easily 13 ambulances with people in them waiting to be seen. This is our NHS in reality. These are people. Very sad scenes
@BorisJohnson
I think the biggest failing of the
@Conservatives
was the scrapping of Sure Start Children’s Centres. I remember the impact I had working in them for so long. Scrapping them ruined children and families life chances.
I won’t forget, will you?

Tuff trays have become the new worksheets. I’ve seen some awful pedagogy of late. I am finding that educators are sticking anything into a tuff spot. We went through a stage of using worksheets it’s now tuff spots. Before you do it ask why. If it’s for insta then it’s not needed.
A man who went in [Gove] and got rid of Every Child Matters is a crook. A true reflection on how the Tories broke Britain. This was 2010, 14 years later they continue to break us and attack the lifelines of so many families and children.

This weekend I get to do the most joyful and important thing I do: being a Dad.
Together, Emily and I care for our wonderful son John, who has severe physical and learning disabilities.
Just a quick thought. Where are all the extra Early Years professionals going to come from to expand the ‘Free’ Childcare for next year?
I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but a lot have gone to work for Aldi.
I have one of these bad boys to give away. No more printing, losing bits of paper.

have put together the EYFS in this book for you. So I’m giving away one copy to one of my EYFS pals on Twitter. You have until Friday 28th August mid day to like and share this post.
Had conferment of my Ed D today. So I am Dr now. Here is what my research is about and huge thank you to those acknowledged in my research for their support and guidance. Thank you I can’t wait to share my research with you all.

I’ve lost 2 stone in 8 weeks. My health was in a bad way and the drs said things which made me wake up. But, I’m working on it and taking the time to focus on me. The left is my heaviest and the right is now. Slowly making progress.
If a child is crying sat at a table with a teacher because they are being taught phonics. I think we may have to rethink the strategy. It’s not going to instil a love of reading, language and literacy is it????
Me and my husband still feel uneasy to walk down the street as a married couple. This is the U.K. in 2020. We have things shouted at us, we go shopping and we get laughed at. Ive had jokes made at work. Im not equal. I still have to shout for equality for all. Pride Month
Why are we so transfixed on doing so many interventions in the EYs. If we put more effort into reflecting on making our EYFS more centred around the child we wouldn’t need interventions. We just need to focus on what the children need in the NOW. Play, Love, Empathy & Joy
It’s now Official and on its way. I have the pleasure of letting you all know that
@SwailesRuth
and I will be co editing a book together with many other chapter authors called ‘Early Childhood Theorists Today’ I am very excited 😜 watch this space.

The biggest betrayal to children and families in the UK by our Conservative Government was the massacre and closures of Sure Start Children’s Centres. The free childcare offer now is literally just smoke and mirrors. Free childcare is not the same as universal services.
Trigger Warning.
I am very poorly and have been knocked off my feet. But when a Twitter friend sends you the best get well card, well you have to share it lol 😂
It has made me laugh 😂

My mum has called me this morning. She has tested positive for Coronavirus. It’s such a shit world. I am her carer and I can’t get there myself. She is worried and I have never prayed so much in my life. I am hoping that she pulls through. Love to you all. I’m very sad today.
Sure start was one of the biggest investments to our country and our children. A dedication by the treasury at 99-2010. Let’s not forget it was a choice but a clear one for our children, families and the future. Thank you
@GordonBrown
for your investment and drive at the time.

We now have a large – and growing – pool of evidence to show that learning through play is the best way to support learning.
Five key characteristics unlock playful learning
If we could be part of an Early Childhood manifesto for
@UKLabour
what would your three main points of consideration be:
Mine are:
1. Revive Sure Start
2. Access to school nurse and dentists
3. Raise the age of starting school at 6.

Who remembers this bad boy ' Birth to three matters'?. Those were the days. My pack was with me on the back seat when I was visiting homes, new birth checks, stay and play and mother and baby sessions. Brings back so many memories.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages and tweets about the homophobic hate I recieved. I have had so much support and well wishes. Just remember that Love and Acceptance wins. I won’t be silenced. Maybe for 8 hours while I slept 🤣😂 thank you to everyone 👍⭐️🧡
I won’t ever apologise or be made to feel that the LGBT Early Years magazine and website is a bad thing. If we can teach children and parents about acceptance,love one another and celebrate diversity then that is what it is about. We must continue to do better and challenge hate
It is now official. I will be leaving my amazing colleagues and students in February at UCB to start a new Position at Nottingham Trent University as Principal Lecturer. Proud to have worked at such a valuable University in the Heart of Birmingham, But now, onto my next chapter.
It has been a complete whirlwind but I’ve got to celebrate my little wins. Thank you to everyone who has wished me well and congratulated me on my Viva. I have some amendments to make so will focus on them over the next couple of months. Thanks again. Love to you all and my team

Let's bring a bit of Joy back to the Early Years. It all seems a little too serious of late. Listening to those say it's learning and focusing on curriculum. Let's not forget we are dealing with our youngest in society. Play, fun, love and joy should be at the heart of our
My only tweet today is this. I have been booked by lots of EYs LAs and Teaching schools recently. They are keen to hear an alternative narrative. One which focuses on the unique child, one which focuses on child development and one which focuses on love and nurture.

Morning, went on a walk this morning with the dog. Went past a house with a child in the window waving at me to look at his sign. I said well done 👍 he ran off smiling. Here is the sign, saying thank you 😊 Little things 😂😊❤️

Thanks

I love your new advert as you have given elf on the shelf the boot. Also kind of empowers us to do Christmas how we want to do it. That’s special in our own way as we all do it a little differently 👍😊🥳❤️
More pictures from the state run kindergarten in Shanghai. They have a lot of space which is unusual, but they utilise all of it. Including the stairs inside the kindergarten which converts into a slide. Their theme this term is Autumn.
Do you want to build your EY curriculum based on child development and your children’s needs whilst fulfilling the statutory requirements ? Look out for our new book coming in the new year which explores curriculum development from the foundations upwards.

Average Nursery practitioner salaries can range between £7.99-12.66 per hour. I want
@UKLabour
to say how we can invest in the future of our professionals who look after and educate our most precious in society, the 0-5 year olds.
This so made me think today. Where did we change the narrative of play, sticking a few numbers in the tuff spot and calling it play is not play. It’s an adult outcome and not a child’s. We need to get back to joy, fun and child initiated play. Love this made by

I have this little book of quotes. Let’s play a game. See how amazing you are. Tell me a number between 1-90 and I will send you the quote from that page. Let’s go. Who is going to go first.

Did you not vote for sewage to enter the waterways and the sea then? Show us the electorate what you were actually voting on. Because why did 22 of your MPs not vote for it? Because it’s not true and you are gaslighting people as usual.
Corona Update. Last night was bad. Temp was high. Still can’t move really, the aches and pains are horrendous, have never felt this bad. I dread to think what it would be like with no vaccine? 😱
Today I am going to be sleeping. Take care to protect you and others. ❤️❤️❤️
Ok so today I had my confirmation. An opportunity for me to defend my research. It was hard, lots of questions but I left being told that I had done well, defended it and for me to continue with my analysis. So I have my data and now time to start writing it up. Yay 😀

Where is Labour
@UKLabour
? Why are you not supporting the Educators, Early Years sector and Unions? Your silence is noticeable?
@Keir_Starmer
why are you not saying anything? Labour have lost it if you don’t support it this time. You are the opposition, grow some and challenge.
I have spoken to a couple of Nursery Practitioners over the weekend. They told me that they are having to sit with no heating on as they can’t heat their home. These are full time members of our community living in poverty. Just another reminder of our living wages in the EYs.
Guys I know I’ve said that I won’t be silenced but I can’t stand the constant barrages of hate, so I am protecting my tweets again for a bit. Just to clarify the magazine isn’t for Children. It’s for professionals and not a document for children. Simple 😊👍⭐️
Children Centres were a national offer. They provided early help services for all. They were a national treasure of children’s services. We are proud of our NHS and we should be proud of our Children’s Centres too. It’s time to make stand and invest. Children 0-8 matter
The government has made the EY a sector once seen across the world as progressive is now becoming a system of two tiers, those that just do the care ‘pre reception’ and those that do the education, reception. What has happened to our well constructed EYs?
That’s my tweet.
Well done to everyone who has emailed
@Ofstednews
and turned the tide on Gavin trying to threaten Educators, because that is what it was. Great work Guys maybe they need to investigate him, I expect
@halfon4harlowMP
to do this and do it right.
Covid Update: so today I am starting to feel some normal. I am completely exhausted and small things become big things. Mum has WhatsApp video me this morning and is talking and eating. Positive day today. But slow steps moving forward. Thank you everyone much love ❤️
A shout out to Ruth
@SwailesRuth
today. It has been the best partnership working together, true EY pedagogy, friendship & respect. Ruth inspires me every day, she gets up even in the hardest of times and for that I am truly grateful. Thank you Ruth heres to the next chapter
As a chair of governors, just like staff well-being is important, I always ask my headteacher if they are ok, and is there anything I can do. The role is hard enough, finances, pressures, shortages of staff, we don’t need Ofsted agenda on top of this. If you are COG check in on
