Curious that talented athletes frequently credit God when they win, but we rarely see them blame God when they lose.

Fantasy fiction is more realistic than eg Thomas Hardy. It highlights the fact that the supernatural exists and we live in a world that actually is a battle between good and evil, and that our actions are not fully determined by our material circumstances.

This was a great discussion between @PageauJonathan and @annielcrawford on C. S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces. I really sympathize with Lewis and his divided worldview between modern rationalistic man and pre-mordern mythic man. As a trained scientist and lover of myth, I can understand both sides of Lewis' mind. My life goal is to harmonize the scientific with the mythic in a way that does not end up with the Tower of Babel (That Hideous Strength). I am always interested in connecting the seeming idiosyncrasies of scientific discoveries with the Divine Pattern. I also don't want to hand-wave away the incorrect scientific views of our pre-modern thinkers. It's a wild and delicate balance.

Christians are not naturalists, we do not believe in an unenchanted world. We worship the God who says He crushes dragons and leviathans underfoot, the God who slays His enemies with the sword from His mouth. The God surrounded by Living Creatures-far stranger than any in the natural world- who cry “HOLY!” forever and ever before the Throne. The God who casts out demons into swine, the God who gives visions of the future in the shape of beasts and dragons. The God who gives flesh and sinew to dry bones. The God who’s army marches before His chosen. The God who rings chariots of fire around His prophets and sent them to assume Elijah into High Heaven. The God who was born of a virgin, died, led the captives below to Glory, rose again on the 3rd day of His own power. We believe that High Heaven is true Reality, and all here in the natural is a shadow passing away before the burning light of His Glory
