Seeing how much the world accepts that it’s impossible to move on after watching CPR really makes me think about how we (medical professionals, especially those who work in Emergency departments) are expected to just move on immediately after a code.

My friends story: She met a guy at a bar. Told him she is an EM Doc (he asked). He didn’t believe her, so asked for Tx for MRSA. She offered oral abx based on resistance in her area. He told her she was wrong, bc Vanc is the only option. He’s an MS 1 She’s an EM attending

@thatsdrstimpy2u @ALefthandedLady @CatDocMD Great question. If the patient is asymptomatic, there is nothing the ER should do, other than refer to the PCP for more aggressive BP control. Drastic lowering of BP in patients without symptoms has been shown to be MORE dangerous and lead to strokes immediately.

When interviewing for residents, I place much higher value on having a real job prior to med school. Medical volunteerism (& shadowing) suggests that you had connections that other applicants did not. Holding down a job, suggests to me that you know what hardwork looks like.

Normalize pre-meds NOT doing "medical" volunteering in Africa. Most have no qualifications or skills. Do something good in your own community instead. Medical school admission is hypercompetive but this is not the way to stand out IMO. Med schools are complicit as well.
