SXSW expressed interest in programming ‘COYOTE VS ACME’ at the festival but Warner Bros refused their request.
The festival often screens work-in-progress cuts.

If you told anybody in 2010 that a live-action Dora the Explorer movie would be better than “The Last Airbender”, well, they’d probably laugh in disbelief.

DreamWorks took write-downs for some of their less successful films; their perceived value was reduced, but the films weren’t yanked from circulation, like WB is doing with their write-offs, essentially devaluing the affected shows.

They hyped it up in the commercials as a big, terrible thing, and... he collects plushies. So he has a hobby that doesn’t match Carly’s idea of what a bad boy is like. So what?
Something I like about Rise in general is the use of their names. The Turtles call Splinter “dad.” Splinter usually just calls them by their bandanna color but uses their actual names when it’s a serious moment or the occasion calls for it, like here. (1/2)
Say what you will about the Blue Sky closure, but at least Disney was ultimately willing to let Annapurna finish Nimona. The fact that Scooby is a WB IP through-and-through means what was done will sit on the studio’s servers forever.
What’s painful about Scoob: Holiday Haunt being cancelled is that since Scooby-Doo is a property of Warner Bros, another studio can’t just take the movie and complete it like Annapurna getting Nimona. So WB has to finish and release it.

Zaslav really is the anti-Ted Turner. Turner wasn’t perfect, but he understood the value of making the libraries he accumulated accessible to the masses.
When I wrote this back in January, I was filled with hope for the future of
@tcm
-- It was evident to me that the hosts were cautiously optimistic and were choosing to believe the goodwill and verbal support Zaslav and higher ups gave them.
Slightly related: I was looking at some Instagram posts by the creatives behind Scoob! Holiday Haunt earlier showing BTS stuff, all sent before that film was shelved. For any frustration fans had at the film’s non-release, the makers were so excited about it, and I can’t…
The Nimona Movie Fan Account!! #StandWithAnimation
The fact that companies can get away with wiping out stuff that THEY MADE FOR THEIR OWN STREAMING SERVICE all just to save a quick buck…
Can you see why I want a Nimona bluray so badly? Because with this dumb precedent, there’s a non-zero chance this shit happens to that too.
Also, the nicknames the four give each other. Not just shortened versions of their given names like in other versions, but they’ll use other syllables for nicknames as well (Michael, Angelo, Leon, etc.). (2/2)
Apparently there have been huge cuts going on at DreamWorks including my entire former department?? Part of a push to outsource everything and avoid dealing with the union?
It’s kinda fitting that the directors of Nimona also did Spies in Disguise. They have a lot in common.
While done differently, they both involve outcasts trying to clear someone’s name of a crime they were framed for, and themes of how being different can be a good thing.
Former Disney animation execs Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein have joined Megan Ellison’s Annapurna to establish and co-lead an Animation division at the independent studio

celebrates its 30th anniversary as the creative force behind some of the world’s most beloved franchises, including Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, The Boss Baby, The Croods, and How to Train Your Dragon.
How it goes from Pixar movies to Shrek kinda reminds me of that Lego Batman Movie trailer that lists every live-action Batman movie WB’s done up to that point, then The Lego Movie.
There’s a teaser for Chicken Run 2 on Netflix’s page for the movie, but it’s just this poster, animated so the chickens blink, and you can hear clucking.
Creepy.
I’ll never understand Doug’s distaste for Blue Sky Studios. Even his Peanuts Movie review, though positive, seemed kind of iffy.
While on the subject, did he even bother to see Spies in Disguise?
