Day 5 of Ebola Response: Strengthening Surveillance & Case Detection Saturday, 8th February—Makerere School of Public health teams expanded case detection efforts beyond main roads, responding to gaps identified in the previous day's surveillance update. Two teams were deployed to ensure smaller, remote health facilities were included. Challenges included missing phone numbers in patient registers, hindering follow-ups. Critical patient details were recorded in personal notebooks instead of facility files, raising continuity of care concerns. 📍 Another team conducted follow-ups on alert cases. A sub-group visited a quarantine center, confirming no new symptomatic cases. By day’s end, 5731 records were reviewed, identifying 939 suggestive cases & 8 alerts. Limited access to private health facilities remained a key challenge. 📍 The teams efforts reinforced epidemiological skills in outbreak response, sharpening problem-solving in real-time. Despite documentation and access challenges, our team remains committed to strengthening surveillance, ensuring early case detection, and supporting Uganda’s fight against Ebola. #EbolaResponse #PublicHealth

The briefing was led by Dr. Wenani Daniel, Lubwaama Bernard, and Mr. Daniel Kadobera, who provided an overview of the current status of the #Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) #outbreak caused by Sudan ebolavirus (SEBV) in central Uganda. A key focus of the session was adherence to strict infection prevention and control (#IPC) measures including maintaining a safe distance, avoiding direct contact, refraining from entering homes, and not eating or drinking in the field.
