My position has always been that I have no idea if animals go to heaven and any claim of surety on this point reeks of hubris. There is no vision of heaven that we can have here on earth that will be more right than wrong. All we have is images and ideas to express what we do know: total contentment, peace, and joy. If we somehow make it to heaven our pets are not there, we won’t notice. We won’t know what sorrow or lack is. If we somehow make it to Heaven and our pets are there, all the better. Until we actually get there or don’t, we can’t know for sure. For many, envisioning pets there is part of what will make it Heaven and it hurts nothing.
