A great deal of umpires really respect the game and love what they do. I saw an ump get here 30 minutes early with his wife/girlfriend, who came just to watch him call a 9am game. They deserve to be treated with dignity whether or not we are happy with every ball and strike.

1st ballot HOFer had 311 wins, 3,640 strikeouts, 3 Cy Young Awards. In the 1970s Seaver went 178-101, 2.61 ERA, 40 shutouts, exceeding 200Ks 8 times. He led the league in strikeouts 5x and ERA 3x, including 1.76 mark in 1971.
