Happy Birthday Dave Parker, 'The Cobra', 1978 NL MVP, a 7x All-Star, 2x batting champ & 3x Gold Glove RF. Parker was a 230 pound steamroller with speed, a cannon arm, hit the baseball as hard as anyone who ever played the game - he was a career .290 hitter with 526 doubles.

Happy Birthday to the late Dock Ellis. In 1974 he deliberately drilled first 3 Reds batters and threw at the next 2 before being removed. During his only All-Star season, 1971, Dock went 19-9 for @Pirates , then posted 15-7 mark in '72. In '76 he was traded to @Yankees , went 17-8

Remembering the late HOFer Willie Stargell on his birthday. In 1973 Stargell tallied 90 extra-base hits, the highest single season total of the decade and led MLB w 43 2B, 44 HR, 119 RBI, .646 Slg%. The 7x All-Star was 1979 NL co-MVP, + NLCS and WS MVP. He hit 475 career HR.

A great deal of umpires really respect the game and love what they do. I saw an ump get here 30 minutes early with his wife/girlfriend, who came just to watch him call a 9am game. They deserve to be treated with dignity whether or not we are happy with every ball and strike.

Happy Birthday to 'The Franchise' Tom Seaver. 1st ballot HOFer had 311 wins, 3,640 strikeouts, 3 Cy Young Awards. In the 1970s Seaver went 178-101, 2.61 ERA, 40 shutouts, exceeding 200Ks 8 times. He led the league in strikeouts 5x and ERA 3x, including 1.76 mark in 1971.

Remembering the late Bill Buckner on his birthday. Buckner hit .314 w 31 stolen bases in helping LA to NL pennant in 1974. He hit .323 for @Cubs in 1979 and won 1980 batting crown (.324). With @RedSox Buckner had 100+ RBI in '85 & '86 He retired w 2,715 lifetime hits, 498 2B.
