hi, im the person who animated this. that price point is per cut not the full scene (cut meaning a shot when the subject of camera changes). that number was what i got paid to do layout and then was paid again to do genga. i was not responsible for in betweens, color, composite.
The animator who animated this scene got payed with 2.500 yen ($17USD).It took her 10 hours to make, .which is not even 2$ per hour. The Anime industry is a wicked place

i wonder if ppl realize that drawing fanart and writing fan fiction is pretty much what animation industry ppl do for a living. this is an /extreme/ simplification of what our jobs are but in essence it’s kind of what we do??.

i don’t want ppl to get mixed up what i did for the show (which was strictly LO and genga) and from the comparison of an American production yes ¥2500 per cut is low but that number has been pretty common from my experience specifically. very rarely i see ¥4000+ per cut-.

lately, ive been seeing more artists and mutuals turn to csp for it's affordable price and animation feature (which if i must say is pretty darn good). i animate all my stuff in csp and would like to share the knowledge ive learned abt it for the past 2-3 yrs!

and for those asking why i would say yes, the honest truth was that i was personally invited to participate by a director i highly respect. i wanted to work with him and learn, probably my downfall as an artist but if i get the chance to work with someone i admire i will say yes.

and if i do it’s because ive either 1) worked with the studio long enough that they raise my pay 2) it’s a very tight turnaround and they need someone to fill in cause the original person is sick, mia, etc 3) a lot of background characters are needed to be drawn.

i know with the internet ppl will misinterpret or twist my words (would happen eventually) but just to be very transparent that price was for layout and then i was paid again (same price) for genga. it was still a lot of work with not much time but hey that’s animation sometimes.
