The NICs increase is a concern to both our Directors and care providers. ā€œIt forces councils to make choices about care eligibility, increases costs for care providers and councils who are overspending on adult social care,ā€ says our VP, @jessmcparrott.

Our latest survey showed around 80% of councils in England were set to overspend on adult social care by 564mn collectively last year. We need a fully-funded, long-term plan for adult social care so people can live their lives in ways that matter to them.

Many care providers will be disappointed by this increase, particularly given the 130,000 vacancies across the sector which international recruits are key to filling, and the recent NICs increase which has pushed up staff costs.

Access to the right #socialcare transforms peopleā€™s lives and enables them to live independently. It also brings benefits to the #NHS reducing pressure on services like A&E as shown in the article below.

Our VP @jessmcparrott told @theipaper the care workers she has spoken to are proud of their work and find it very rewarding, however ā€œthe downside is how much if any of that is recognised or valued by other people.ā€

A 3 year review is too long to wait for thousands of people and their families whose care and support needs aren't being properly met, particularly when much of the evidence on how to reform social care is already known.
