Happy 7th Birthday to my baby ๐ I started you when I was 29 and totally lost in life. I didnโt understand myself. I didnโt understand why, despite achieving success in a lot of the ways that society tells a young man that he should be proud of, that I still felt unaccomplished and hollow. I didnโt know why I was so at the mercy of otherโs opinions, why my self-worth was so gossamer thin and fragile, why I couldnโt fully connect with people around me, why I never felt good enough, why my nature seemed to be so at-odds with my desire for growth. I wanted to understand myself and the world around me. I wanted to have a roadmap through the challenges I was facing in my personal life. I wanted to be able to ask weird, niche questions of dusty academics with unpronounceable surnames that Iโd found on Twitter and Psychology Today. I wanted to floss my brain with conversations that I couldnโt find anywhere else. So I built it. Modern Wisdom has always been a project of the most personal nature to me. A thinly veiled autobiography masquerading as a series of public recordings. Itโs taken me around the world. Iโve met heroes, turned down presidents, caused uproar, ignored smears, celebrated wins, sold out theatres, doubted myself, feared judgement and broken myself in half trying to rip this fucker off the launch pad one inch at a time to get some momentum going. Itโs a beautiful thing to have a challenge that no one will come to save you from. If you donโt do this thing, it just wonโt get done and no one will care. Itโs inertia in its purest form. Laundry is outsourced at migrant hotels, with one location having pick ups on Tuesdays and Fridays. The migrants leave their clothes in numbered bags, and it's returned to them clean - as many items as they like. Never forget that this is YOUR tax, YOUR money.
