We are happy to announce that the PACE @PACE_News resolution and recommendation on “Multiperspectivity in remembrance and history education for democratic citizenship” were just adopted, following an interesting debate among speakers present at this morning’s session. 🔗 “What we point out is that teaching history isn't only about conveying facts, but also about helping students to analyze in a critical fashion the past, understand the present and construct a more inclusive future, looking at the ability to differentiate between facts and propaganda and developing critical thinking” said rapporteur Luz Martinez Seijo. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls for: 🟣 Support to member States in reviewing their education policies 🟢 Integrating Council of Europe’s guiding principles for history education and the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture in national curricula 🟡 Bridging the gap between formal and non-formal education 🟠 Facilitating partnerships between #schools, cultural institutions and other relevant stakeholders to co-create #history #lessons and “safe learning spaces for democracy” The two texts will join the collection of resolutions and recommendations related to history teaching and Remembrance, adopted at the Council of Europe: 🔗 #HistoryAtHeart
