This is for the healthcare workers on the frontlines — the Sarabande from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3. Your ability to balance human connection and scientific truth in service of us all gives me hope.

This music has been with me for 60 years. It's seen me through times of stress, loss, joy, and transition. It's connected me to others all over the world and helped me to understand life in new ways.

Last year in Lima I met artists of the Shipibo tribe, who use art to share their knowledge of the Amazon. They settled in the dense neighborhood of Cantagallo, which faces high rates of COVID. This is for them & the millions who don’t have the luxury of distance.

I was in Hawaiʻi last month with culture-keepers, artists, sailors, and scientists, communities who believe in that most fundamental and beautiful vision: “He waʻa, he honua” — that the earth is our canoe. (1/9)
Last month, I was in West Virginia, where I had the privilege of sharing music, meals, and nature with young people, artists, scientists, miners, and others. (1/8)
