I think the ACC missed a big and brave opportunity to name Syracuse’s Gary Gait coach of the year. With three of his best players out he still managed to coach the Orange to the ACC final. This award shouldn’t automatically go to the coach with the most wins.

The gracious coach of the Boston College Eagles gives an example in realtime. In the raw emotional postgame press conference, Acacia demonstrates this with class and dignity as she praises Northwestern and acknowledges realities about sports in addition to commending her players.
I was always taught to be gracious in defeat. Regardless of what went on during the game, I was taught to congratulate the winners. The story is about them, not me.

If you look up the word Stalwart in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of one of BC’s unsung heroes—Cassidy Weeks. Strong, Brave, Fearless, Resolute, Valiant. She does the hard work game in/game out that doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet. Dangerous offensively, as well.

Associate Head Coach Jennifer Kent has been with BC since 2008. Kent focuses on the excellent, innovative defensive corps. Most of the accolades for the stingy D must be attributed to Kent and her ability to teach and mold raw talent into great defenders. Way to go, Jenn!!

Sophomore midfielder Kayla Martello--a new mainstay on BC's offense this season. To be made a starter is a big vote of confidence from coach Acacia. It is the boldness with which Martello drives to cage and finishes that has impressed me. 24 goals, 6 assists so far--and counting.

Beginning of the NU/JHU game, a rare time one gets to see the opening lineup stick gauntlet tradition. One of the things that stood out to me was Class Act Izzy Scane peeling off to greet/honor JHU head coach Tim McCormack. It always fills me up whenever I see a player do that.

WOW! Stony Brook takes down Syracuse in a 17-16 thriller! Congratulations to the Seawolves. They could have folded early when they went down by 4 with under 10 minutes left in the first half, but they stormed back to win their season opener in Huge fashion.

Long walk home from the national championship, but BC has great reason to be proud of '23. Dusted the rest of the ACC (13-1) and won their long delayed 1st conference championship. Making it back to the NCAA Title game for the 6th year in a row is also very impressive.

Permit me a little more boasting. In 9 games for NU this year, Sammy White (a defender according to roster) has 3 goals (2 from free position—a Defender!) 2 assists, 23 DC’s, 10 CT’s and 10 GB’s. White has played Attack, Mid and D so far. A Unique must-watch player to be sure.

Those familiar with film/theater reviews will recognize "I laughed, I cried." Well, that was me frequently throughout this documentary. I found it enjoyably compelling. Poignant in spots. So glad to have witnessed the triumphant redemption of the Northwestern Wildcats in 2023.

Not a fan of taking away opportunities for female athletes. Why would we continue to receive 12 scholarships if we are only playing 11 athletes? Why do we need four coaches if we are putting fewer players on the field?

I don't think it is possible for me to care any less about attracting male fans to the game by changing the rules to make the sport more "palatable". Women's lacrosse is a fantastic sport just the way it is. An occasional tweak is fine, but make it more like the men's game?? 👎
Definitely! I would like to see Jenny’s rules implemented first to see if it can keep the beauty of WLAX. Too many rules built for safety that only WLax purists get. Win over the MLax fans to expand reach - right now unwatchable for most men’s lax fans.

Northwestern winning their 8th National Title. It was a foregone conclusion most of the year for me, but was still exhilarating to see come to pass. Very special for many--not the least of whom was Molly Laliberty.

One of the players I greatly enjoyed in ‘21 was Gabby Rosenzweig. A prodigious talent, Gabby’s exuberant celebrations and the joy that she played with was a delight to witness.

Izzy Scane now has 46 goals in 7 games. That's an average of 6.57 goals per game. If she continues at this pace, she'll shatter the single season record for goals (103). It would be fitting for her to be the new record holder.

Trinity McPherson coming back to play after taking a year off is one of the more intriguing stories of 2023. An excellent defender with a nifty ability to intercept passes. A sit-up-and-take-notice player. I'm looking forward to following her season with Denver this year.
