I know this sounds sad but it's so cool to me
I’ve audited over 1,000 websites to help with their SEO.
This includes multi-billion dollar brands, SaaS companies you might know (Ahrefs, ConvertKit, Kinsta), large affiliate sites and everything in between.
Here are some of the most common problems I find 👇

The biggest report I've ever written is now live. 🎉
A few weeks ago I privately launched an SEO extension for Chrome that does a few things I desperately wanted (and couldn't find elsewhere). After hundreds of beta testers, I wanted to let a few more people know about it over here:
Last week, for the fourth time this year, I analysed 10,000 search results where product review affiliates dominate rankings.
Google's latest updates caused the biggest shake-up I've ever recorded. I have lots of insights to share, but one site in particular stood out.
Reddit.
We recently invested ~$10,000 into a report on what types of sites ranked best in affiliate-populated SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).
Something really lucky ☘️ (and unlucky) happened on the way, so before it's live, I'm giving away some insights in this Twitter thread 👇
SEO SaaS platform Semrush just announced their Q2, 2023 results.

I analysed 10,000 product review search results to see which companies are dominating Google's 'Discussions and Forums' SERP feature.

This is far different to anything I've written before so I've worked for weeks to do the concept justice.
Whatever you're focused on, I hope you'll find a relevant insight.
Similarweb just released its list of the 100 fastest-growing companies online.
I went through each one to find how reliant they are on SEO and whether there were any interesting businesses to learn from.
Spoiler: Some are incredible. One is wrong (?). Here's what I discovered..
If Wikipedia ranks well for a term in your niche, you can get an idea of how much traffic is Google is sending them as their analytics are publicly accessible.
You can filter between Desktop, Mobile & App traffic, and also see interest in a topic over time.

In my recent affiliate search results deep-dive, I shared that IAC's DotdashMeredith owned more sites in the top 100 overall domains than anyone else (16).

Unpopular opinion: Sites that nofollow every outbound link (Forbes, Entrepreneur, Huffington Post contributors, etc.) don't deserve to rank in Google. If you can't monitor the people writing for your site, don't have them in the first place.
My SEO video audits haven't been available for a while so someone said if I squeeze one in for her she'll link to any of my websites in return.

Dotdash Meredith, whose sites dominate product review and informational search results, revealed digital revenue of $212M for Q3, down 4% YoY.
Ad revenue declined 12% in the quarter, but "affiliate commerce" revenue grew by 49%.

There's a company you might not have heard of that has generated $700M+ in affiliate revenue, competing in search results with the likes of NerdWallet, PCMag, Cnet and Forbes.

What a weird timeline.
Moneysupermarket posted revenues of £115.6M (~$140M) for Q3 of 2023, a 14% increase YoY for their finance and travel websites.
You can think of their finance sites as the UK equivalent of Nerdwallet, where they're highly reliant on traffic from Google.

How about NightWatch, with the coolest homepage design I've seen in a while?
I've finally decided to tackle my favourite industry.
Ziff Davis (IGN, PCMag, AskMen, Moz, RetailMeNot) reported digital media revenues of $267.9M for Q3, a 1.6% increase YoY.

If you don't rank, quickly perform a new search to signal dissatisfaction with the SERPs 😬

My content focus for this year is research reports and new ranking tactics I've been working on, but when I saw these numbers I had to reach out and ask some questions.
Personal finance blog MoneyUnder30 sold for $675,000 this month.
As far as I can tell - the situation is a bit tough to unravel - there's a good chance the site was losing money.
It was last acquired in 2017 for $7M by XLMedia $XLM.
