It was a lucky day for a pair of horses that fell down a ravine in Smithtown. After the horses became stuck in a river bog, SCPD Emergency Service Section officers, helped by members of the Smithtown and Commack Fire Departments, were able to free them from the mud.

Congratulations to the newest class of recruits to enter the Police Academy, the most diverse class of recruits in SCPD history. Of the 104 recruits, 28% are minorities, 10 speak fluent Spanish, 43% have law enforcement experience, 68% are vets. They will now train for 30 weeks.

Officers Peter Laub and Patrick Hanley yesterday saved the life of an infant in Coram.
The two responded to a call of the baby choking. PO Laub provided back blows and PO Hanley cleared her airway. The baby began breathing & was transported to a hospital.

Officer Tyler Williams responded to a house fire in Port Jefferson Station on February 16.
The residents evacuated but multiple pets were stuck inside. When PO Williams arrived, a woman was trying to free her dog. He quickly pulled the dog from a window.

The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Alerted by a security guard, an SCPD police officer spotted a man and woman leaving Home Depot in North Patchogue with $1300 of stolen copper wire. He quickly apprehended the woman. The man fled in a stolen car, but was soon arrested himself, with an illegal gun found in the car.

SCPD Marine Bureau officers responded to a deer stuck on the ice off Smith Point County Park on 1/23. A fawn had gotten stuck, half submerged in the icy water roughly 60 feet off shore.
The officers deployed an ice sled & were able to bring her to safety.
