I am so happy to share that
@Ellevest
has raised $53 million in Series B funding to get even *more* money in the hands of women. And I’m also smiling as I type this: Two-thirds of our investors in Ellevest are women. (That's practically unheard of, btw.)
Hey,
@WSJ
, is this “Susan Collin Consents” headline supposed to be a cute play on the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh? Because, you know, Susan Collins is a woman and gave in to pressure from men?

At a cocktail party last night, a male senior executive shared with me, with lots of anecdotes, what he had just learned at a session on unconscious gender bias. At length. I told him I wrote a whole book on women and work, addressing this. But he heroically forged on.

Hey, y’all. We have some news at
@Ellevest
today. (And I’m trying to act cool about it but I’m so proud of the team and the investors who have chosen to support our mission of getting more $s into the hands of women.)
Building a remote-first company means taking on not-your-father’s challenges. Enabling my remote team to do their best work means streamlining where I can and digitizing workflows.

We’ve got news –– big news. Ellevest is the first financial company built by women, specifically for women to reach $1 billion in client investments.*
To the tens of thousands of women investing the $1 billion who are Getting. It. Done.
Congratulations!
Today, I’m excited to share one of the proudest moments of my career to date — during Women’s History Month, no less.

“she had trained herself not to be too beautiful, too intelligent, too considerate, too independent, too generous....The “too” of a woman produces violent male reactions and...the enmity of other women, who every day...fight...for the crumbs left by men”
“It’s impossible because we have a great culture here. We’re a best place to work. We don’t do that kinda thing.” --Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff recalls being shocked to find out his company might have a gender pay gap in 2015.
Feeling gutted this morning. And grateful for all that

Historically, the health of the economy (including inflation) has had very little correlation with whoever is leading the country. You know what *is* influenced by who’s in office? And what *does* impact the economy? Reproductive rights. 🧵

Watched another game from a flight. Guy next to me knew little about b-ball (“Is it the NCAAs already??”). But when Grayson Allen came on, he said “I hate that guy.”
My last 2 weeks of travel: a migraine, a bar of soap in the hotel shower with someone else’s *hair* embedded in it, a coffee cup with someone else’s lipstick, a furious host (who seemed not to believe I had a migraine), a missed flight, two very late flights.

In a capitalist society, money is not just money. Money is power. Money is the power to leave relationships that don’t work for you, to leave jobs that you hate, to buy a home, to start a business. Women don’t just have less money than men, they have a lot less money. 🧵

This morning, SCOTUS overturned the protections guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. As CEO of a financial company built for women, by women — with a team of more than 80% women employees — I know the importance of being able to take control of our money, our choices, and our futures.

Barclays pays female bankers 1/2 of what males make. Their response: they will “continue to focus on ensuring there is no bias in the hiring, promotion, development and retention of women at Barclays.” Yes, “continue to”.....

In college the “joke was that we traveled in packs, even to the bathroom. You’re damn right we did. Until we didn’t. Until we got to the ‘real world’..and were separated. Each woman for herself, competing against each other for..that rare seat at the table
We’re (finally) in the home stretch of 2020. What a disruptive year for so many women, with the pandemic and “she-cession” revealing some deep truths. Here are some of the things I know — and want everyone to know — about women and money. (1/13)
