Connecticut’s 2nd District is home to the largest number of farms of all five Congressional districts. This morning, I joined the Tolland County Farm Bureau and a contingent of the Rockville High School Future Farmers of America to discuss the latest from Washington, such as passage of the long-overdue 2023-24 disaster aid, the threat of cuts to UCONN’s ag extension and co-op program, as well as USDA grants to the University of Connecticut. Thank you for hosting me!

Another win for checks and balances on Trump’s illegal overreach. USAID employees are dedicated public servants authorized by an act of Congress to fight the spread of disease, create economic stability in developing parts of the world, and build good will towards the US and its partners. They deserve our utmost support.
NEWS: Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee, has blocked Secretary Rubio from placing 2,200 USAID employees on leave tonight while legal matters are pending. He may also Rubio to recall 500 placed on leave already. He says it's a "very limited" restrainig order.

Today's $500M investment from Australia into the U.S. submarine industrial base is further proof that AUKUS is a true partnership that the U.S. benefits from as much as our allies. Thank you, Mr Marles, for joining us on the Hill to discuss this remarkable investment.
Australia has many close friends in the US Congress who champion our Alliance and are helping to drive AUKUS forward. @RepJoeCourtney @RepTrentKelly @RepJenKiggans @RepBrianMast @RepAndyBarr @RepCarlos

Russ Vought’s confirmation all but ensures the Trump Administration will do everything in its power to try again to claw back vital federal funding that keeps our schools, nonprofits, and daycares running— all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
Breaking News: The Senate confirmed Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget, putting in place a Project 2025 architect.

President Trump's & Elon Musk's plan to eliminate the Education Department weakens our nation’s future workforce and is not supported by the American people. The Department delivers direct assistance to Connecticut’s students at every level. In just the last year, Thompson and Westbrook high schools opened new welding labs with Education Department financial assistance.

Checking in on the “patients” at Mitchell College’s Nursing Simulation Lab. It was great to meet with Mitchell College President Dr. Tracy Espy, Program Director Martha Kershaw, EdD, RN, and VP of Academic Affairs/Dean of the College Dr. Betsy Beaulieu to discuss the school’s new nursing program, which is leading an effort to connect students to health care careers here in Connecticut.

We recently marked two major wins for seniors. The Social Security Fairness Act, which repeals the WEP & GPO, is now law – and a $2,000/year cap on out-of-pocket Rx drug costs for Medicare Part D is now in effect. I joined a packed house at the Ellington Senior Center to update folks on the good news.

Had a great visit to the Mystic Fire Department and was briefing about a recently installed new exhaust system to protect staff from fire vehicle exhaust fumes. Chief Chris Clarkin and his talented staff secured a federal “Assistance to Firefighters” (AFG) Grant worth $114,000 to pay for this new equipment. President Trump’s attempted freeze order would have shut down AFG, which has been upgrading first responder health and readiness since 2001. The order has been stayed in federal court for now, but the Trump administration is still fighting to restore the freeze.
